where to buy and get alarm installed?

Hey guys who do you recommend I buy a scorpio alarm from? I will also need it installed...prefer someone in Mississauga or close.

Bluestreak sells them and can ship.

Buy the factory connector and install it yourself. All you have to do is unclip one connector, and put the scorpio one in. Use the adhesive velcro to attach the alarm body somewhere in your trunk and you're done.

Thanks dude...but was hoping to get it installed by someone in Toronto...I just dont want to take the risk of screwing something up:)

Unless you are really bad at anything involving following simple directions you can install this with the $20 factory connector.

Thanks guys...I guess I can give it a try...I am thinking of getting the gorilla alarm..seems to be a decent unit from what I have read.

before you go spend money on a basic audio alarm, try this. Go sit in your car/bike

honk the horn on and off for 30 seconds..

10 bucks says nobody will give a crap. Unless its so loud that its annoying, its just white noise to people these days.

Any random trip to a grocery store, mall etc.. I always hear a alarm/horn going.

Unless its a 2way/lojack/gps alarm.. I think its useless.

Maybe he wants to hear it from his house/apartment?

And if you're banking on a pager letting you know that your alarm is going off, you're likely too far away to get to it in time anyway. Thieves load a bike up in under 1 minute, easy. It's just an added deterrent, that's all. You're hoping that if someone is trying to make off with your bike and an alarm starts howling, they might leave it alone and move to the next one.

Useless unless it's required for insurance.

I got an expensive Scorpio alarm and got it installed by a cheap bike shop. They messed it up so badly that my battery started dying. Then I had to pay Honda to take it out. They told me that the original installer had done a "hack job."

I suggest getting it installed by a proper dealer and not taking any chances.

as always people giving advice when they don't know what they are talking about. My alarm stopped my bike from been stolen, so anything you can do is one more thing to stop them from getting it, or at least from making it easy on them. I am so tired of stupid advice on this forum.

gorilla alarm is cheap but its a basic alarm and it doesn't work as well as it should, I have one and it takes a good kick to make it squeal even at the most sensitive setting, maybe mine is defective

Sorry for having an opinion. Dont know why that means I dont know what I am talking about.. anyways.....

All I was trying to say, is if your going to spend the cash on an alarm, why not spend a bit more, and get one that might actually work? You said yourself it doesent work 'as good as it should'

If the OP is just doing this to get insurance, as someone else suggested, then I would suggest trying kijiji or ebay, to save a bit more cash.

I took out my Scorpio alarm that my wife surprised me with when at the dealers (installed during a tire change) and fixed their hack job. The owner will install these better than the minimum wage apprentice will every time.

Guys I am not doing this for insurance...I just want to be safe and have the alarm. I think I will get a scorpio or a spy5000 model. Is there any dealer/mechanic in toronto who can install it profesionally? or even someone on the forums? I can pay for the install.

The Scorpio alarm is plug and play. I don't see how it is possible to screw it up. However as a note of caution, my Scorpio alarm drains my battery if I don't use my bike for say, 2 weeks even if it's off. You can physically detach it if you don't plan on riding for a while (just unplug a connector). I'm not sure if this is the case for all alarms, but it probably has to do with all the sensors (prox sensor probably eats up the battery). I did install a switch for it but it has its own oddities involved.

That being said, I don't rely on my alarm to do anything except keep people from sitting on my bike. The keyfob is pretty handy though.
