where to buy a pop-up tent for resting during a track day?

Do you mean a canopy? I picked up a 10'x10' at Walmart for $98 a few weeks back. I think they usually have deals on this stuff. Have a look there.

yeah a canopy, don't wanna sit in the sun all day lol How is the qualify of the one you get at Walmart?

I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Bought it for Calabogie, but we spent more time on the track and in class than in the pits, so we never had time to put it up. I'm sure it's one of those, you-get-what-you-pay-for kinda things, though.

kool. I haven't been to calabogie yet, I heard its one of the best tracks in Ontario.

It's the only track I've been on and I understand I'm now spoiled for every other track out there. If you get the chance to ride it, please do. My Gawd, it's gorgeous!

I would avoid the big box stores and go with an EZ-up or Impact canopy.
Last year I went through about 12 canopies, more aggravating then the financial waste was the fact that they would normally break at the worst possible time causing a lot of stress (and once knocking over someones bike that I had to repair)

I think their entry level steel canopies are priced around the $350 last time I checked.
Just my 2 cents on the matter. Keep in mind I "attend" (but never get time to ride...dammit!) more trackdays in one month than the average trackday enthusiast does in a season. So I demand a lot more out of my equipment than most.

I have to agree with Fawaz... At TMP the winds can really pick up, I've seen many lessor canopies bite the dust.
I've been using an EZ-up bought online (fleabay) and it's really stood up to some wicked winds... make sure you have what ever you buy weighted down on all four corners.

I have one CDN tire canopy and one walmart canopy.

One is up permanently in my yarduntil track time, when I take it with us...the other has been at the track for 6 entire weekends and 2 trackdays. They have also been used for two weeks a yr at our campsite, and neither has let us down yet. Be sure you strap them down well on windy days.

I have a canopy from Walmart, which I went to after 2 Caravan canopies (in 2 trackdays) from Costco. The problem with the Caravan canopy was the cap covering the pin mechanism kept popping out and ejecting the spring across the parking lot. The Walmart canopy is smaller and more compact to roll along & store, but the fabric is lighter. It is also steel versus aluminum, and has a simpler system for staying up. However the fabric is pretty thin so don't expect it to deal with a lot of weather. When tying down the corners, remember to go WIDE, rather than down (a lot of people just hang a spare tire or toolbox off each corner). You get more stability by attaching it to the side of the trailer, vehicle, etc., that will also extend its life a bit more.

Nonetheless, my next one is going to be an Impact no question. Canopies implode on you at the worst times so it's actually the more reassuring and economical option in the long run.

I use the Walmart branded one, have used it for about 3 trackdays and 2 non track day events and its worked great. Like others have said just make sure its tied down properly and you should be fine. I tie 2 side of it to my trailer so its really secure one side. one of other side is tied off to my toolbox and the other to soemthing else heavy, maybe a spare wheel /tire or a cooler full of drinks

that is what i did, got the walmart canopy for 49 bucks, 10X10, works pretty well actually. tie the corners down with jerry can and tool boxes. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I've been using the Costco-bought "Caravan" model for a few years now. It's been doing pretty well. Goes up and comes down easy, seems stable and well made. I have a small tear at the top, but that's from my improper handling as opposed to the canopy itself. Currently fixed with duct tape. I can't remember what I paid for it - maybe $200 or $250?

I have the first-up canopy from walmart. I've used it almost every single weekend since april-may and it's still like new.
Pops up fast and is pretty sturdy, haven't had a single issue with it.
The good thing about it is the legs are straight so you actually get a 10x10 roof area. It also comes with 4 screen walls for bugs, packs up in to a nice case with wheels. You can get 4 solid walls for it too.
Takes up that wasted space in the trailer, slides beside the bike and the trailer wall, fits under the rearsets perfectly.

Costco sells IMPACT CANOPY - great quality $250 delivered. I bought mine this summer. Sets up easy easy easy ( a one man job - never seen a woman set one up but I guess it's possible) Great quality.

I use it at the beach a few times a week too. You get what you pay for - if you are lucky.

My Canadian Tire canopy bit the dust on the 17th @ TMP.

Winds picked up while I was on the track, and I came back to a collapsed canopy. (I had all four corners weighted down).
One side actually bent in a few spots.

I'll try the Wal-mart one next, based on this thread.
