Where Is The Used Motorcycle Market? I Can't Find It

Dude is clueless and thinking short term...all Govts are doing is printing Trillions of $$....Just for a few months of relief...lets see what he posts in 6-10 months as 30% of small business go bankrupt and Major Sectors file for Creditor Protection late 2020 early 2021...see Air Canada this AM...will cost us 5-10 Billion in loans/handouts just to keep them open . Total corporate tax$$$ will be easily another 500 Billion in the next 12 months . The biggest irony is that we do not know when this mess will end. As business and production resume throughout North America do you think consumer demand is going to even come close to pre-Covid consumption?...folks are scared and that is not going to change overnight . Our GDP will be crap for a while I fear

IMF outlook is a source I will stick to them for reality.

Maybe all this talk belongs on a financial form, not a motorcycle one. You're free to read and see all the doomsday news you desire, personally I'm leaning toward the optimistic route, everything will be fine, even if it was like 08/09, everything recovered eventually and came out better than before. People can continue to dwell in fear, fear of the future, finances, the world, their health, uncertainty etc... the only constant is change, the one blessing in this whole mess is, no one from the experts to the kindergarten kids can predict what is going to happen, and that's life.

We should do a group buy of MT-09’s!! Let’s say if we buy 10 maybe $7000 each. I’m in !

I am interested ..........................
MT10 might make me interested... $10K and good to go!
Now to find a dealer to bite.

All you need now is a dealer that wants to cut a deal to lose money.
"What started out as a profit margin of around 15 percent"

Referencing an article that was written by a dealership insider in the US isn’t the same as what’s happening in Canada.....or even in the US, for that matter.
Like when GM was shuttering dealerships in Ontario and they were all crying foul about how much money they invested in their dealerships and how little money they make....HA! Owning a dealership is like having a license to print money! Some of our wealthiest clients own dealerships....

If @Lightcycle hadnt taught me about fiscal responsibility, id be all in for another MT 09

These are not cars made in North America. I did not reference the article because I thought it to be accurate, I did that because if I posted your expectation that a retail dealership could sell you motorcycles at a 30% discount for one of their best selling lines was over optimistic, somebody would challenge that. How much profit margin do you guys think a Yamaha dealer makes in Canada, do you honestly think they markup 40 and 50% margins on MT 09's? <- that's not how it is, unless you are talking tires, parts, helmets and apparel.

I don't even want one but at 7k Canadian which is less then 5K US$ for a brand new MT09, put me down for 1

My group buy idea was of coarse, tongue and cheek. Don’t think anybody thinks it’s actually a possibility.
But if it was I’m still in!

Alright fine... retail on a 2019 is currently around $16,600....
Make it $12K and I'll buy it tomorrow.

Call the dealer and say you’ll take two for $24000. Let me know

And to the buyers - if you don't want to pay the price listed... MOVE ON. Stop trying to convince someone selling that their asking price isn't reasonable... if you don't think it is, buy new or find another listing!

Buddy give it up nobody wants your old junk, buyers are doing you a favor by getting it off your hands. I think you didn't read carefully, I will repeat it to you once again;

If there are any sellers reading this thread, get this through your heads, nobody cares if that old bike of yours was the one you met your wife with or the one your father bought you before he died, I don't care what rubbish emotional strings you attach to it, I'm going to pay you used market rates and I will apply depreciation to the fullest extent.

Its weird for me personally, because certain cultures(including my'n) the concept of retirement homes/nursing homes/ltc is foreign

Our elderly live with us at home, because family
My grandma lived with us till the end, she was 90+
Kids/grandkids look after you, and you want for nothing, no bills or headaches etc

I know man, I didn't even know these "retirement homes" even existed until Covid-19. Who the hell drops off their old parents/grandparents like dogs in a city pound and forget about them? Really? I'm Canadian but born in a foreign country, in the old country we keep our elderly relatives till the end in our homes. I like to hear their interesting war stories at nightime you know, I also save lots of money on babysitting because they take care of my young children.

People grow some balls and keep your parents in your home, they created you, they fed you, they gave their sweat for your careers and this is how you pay them back? By dumping them like an injured French Poodle in a retirement home?

In the "old days" you didn't have both adults in a home having to work every day to pay the bills. You can't just leave an elderly family member at home alone - if that was acceptable they'd probably still be living independently.

And you probably underestimate the level of care some people need when they reach a certain age. Some people don't have the physical ability to handle this, no matter what.

BTW, a "retirement home" and a "nursing home" are two very different things. Retirement homes are like a hotel for the elderly who are still mostly self sufficient but just want to do less of the more challenging things like laundry, cooking, etc. They're insanely expensive and often very fancy. A nursing home provides care for infirm people who need care beyond what their families may be able to offer any longer due to physical or mental problems.
