No, and yes. Japanese of some sort. From my car experience Japanese make quality vehicles. This is where I think I will go next for the bike.and is he stuck on HD or willing to broaden his horizons?

Thanks nakkers, we are on the same page here.Steve,
Get another bike and park the old one for a bit. You can always fix it and or sell it. Make it a winter project etc. those touring HDs can be overhauled and be good for another 100k. Heck, many will do an upgrade or 3 depending on the job needed to complete.

Well I kinda already have a cruiser, so no need to go there or add another one. Yup ADV. I've wanted to explore some more off roadish stuff.gonna stick to cruisers or look at adv bikes?

Actually I was already looking around and saw this:

Something about the vStrom interests me, it's not looks, but it's the type of bike you can just jump on and go with little worry. Plus they haven't changed it drastically so they must have nailed it. At least that is my impression.
Exactly why i bought the Yamaha I'm on. It's proven.Well I kinda already have a cruiser, so no need to go there or add another one. Yup ADV. I've wanted to explore some more off roadish stuff.

Yeah I will admit I did envy your long ride without any real issues. That's what I am looking for.Exactly why i bought the Yamaha I'm on. It's proven.
Cue next thread: what bike should Steve get to supplement his HD?
Also, the older Vstrom 1000's had clutch basket issues requiring replacements.Like colour and that's nicely set up with farkles.
I bought a 2010 with 93,000 KM on it and all factory luggage for $3k certified and drove it 27k more and sold it for $3k.
They are very reliable rides. The only issue is the stator - there was a recall on them.
I bought a DL650 Vstrom just because I couldn't resist the deal, I fell in love with the thing. It's gone 60K so far, all I've spent on her is regular ain't - coolant and hydraulic flush, oil, filters, and a chain. I average 21km/l (4.75l/100km) and I ride her fairly hard. I can easily go 400km on a full 20l tank when touring.Well I kinda already have a cruiser, so no need to go there or add another one. Yup ADV. I've wanted to explore some more off roadish stuff.

This is a 650 not the 1000...I would not want a litre V.Also, the older Vstrom 1000's had clutch basket issues requiring replacements.
I'm with you. The people I've met have raved about the little V, and some had come off the 1000. I almost typed "downgraded", but from their descriptions and wide grins it sounded like it was the opposite. This is a 650 not the 1000...I would not want a litre V.
And finally crunch some burgersI think a vstrom would be a good choice to crunch miles with little drama.
