@LePhillou you and @oomis were 2 of the people that came to mind before I posted this thread. When my boys were born I realized a love that I had never known before. I admire your strength and courage and keep your little one in my thoughts. I cannot wait to hear when he finally gets home.
True @DJM, the hospital does that. My wife, before her surgery was reminding me where the wills were....

Hang in there, Joe Bass. I went through the same procedure as a younger man. No worries, just make sure they mark your forehead above the *correct* eye. It's a fascinating procedure. IIRC, they tether eyeball down where the muscles attach, then rotate it around to begin surgery. You will get some fantastic drugs. Recovery isn't too painful, just awkward. Be prepared to be more light-sensitive than Dracula himself though. Especially during the post-surgery examination. It took a few days to go from darkened bedroom, to streetlights at night, then another few days to to reach daytime tolerance (light-wise). Depends on the person somewhat. If you need follow up laser surgery (on the other eye as a precaution), that neon-argon laser emits the brightest green you will ever see. Sadly, cataracts will develop prematurely (facing that already). Fortunately, cataract surgery is pretty advanced these days. Good luck!

Yeah they said cataracts could happen anywhere between 6 months to 5 years.
You've made me feel better aboit recovery though. I was getting a little nervous as I still can barely open my eye and when I do, I can't see $#!+

The cataracts downside is dependent on many factors. Mine started to become faintly noticeable about 10 years later but I was pretty young recipient. Older eyes have been exposed to solar UV for longer and already on their way, so to speak. Nearly 25 years later, the effects are more noticeable but not really that detrimental. Headlights and computer screens seem to throw more glare, especially bluish ones. To be honest, the floaters are more of a nuisance than the induced cataracts. My prescription didn't change much at all, only slight increments expected with age. YMMV. Find a good optometrist/ophthalmologist who will keep a photographic record of the retina and track it over the course of annual checkups. Good ones know what to look for and also test for glaucoma. Don't sweat the recovery. It only feels like it takes forever. ;)

And my eye dr, Dr.Gagliardi is top notch, and I consider him my guardian angel of my eyes. Both this time, and when I was diagnosed with AMD, he made time to see me immediately and got me to a specialist/ surgeon the next day. And both times I was told that I was very lucky to be having the issue addressed so early.
