what's your tent?

cheers, can I see how it all packs on your bike?

I'm packed for 10 days with a few changes of clothes, tent, mattress, sleeping bag, and cooking hardware. I've gotten pretty efficient at packing for trips.

Has anyone ever done winter camping ? I would like to give it a go but feel a bit hesitant of doing it without someone else to guide me a bit.

It's not that bad.
Just make sure you have LOTS of blankets for night, so you don't freeze to death.

Seriously. You can easily freeze to death if you don't have enough blankets.
Unless you get a heater in your tent, but then you risk it catching fire.

Plus, waking up shivering cold is not a fun thing to do. Many a nights at the cabin without a blanket, fire going out in the middle of the night, waking up almost unable to move.

That's why I want to try it but don't wanna do it on my own.. I picked up camping with no help and have learn things as I go and from others ... I love it, would camp for weeks.

The next on my list are
1) winter camping
2) hammock camping

I pretty much grew up outdoors. Spent 90% of my time hunting and camping.

If you set something up lemme know, I'd be down to join if I'm free.

Got it ... I might do one more camp trip this year, if I get the bike back soon enough ...but otherwise I do want something for the winter so who knows for now.

N yeah I can tell u like outdoors specially after bitching you out for not washing your bike.

I've thrashed my bike through hell and back, and it's still standing. I figured it deserved some respect; a washing every now and then for being such a great toy.

Now I'm just trying to find a way I can get it dirty again...

And if you think my bike was dirty; you've gotta see any 4x4, atv, dirtbike, skidoo, or any other offroad vehicle I can get my hands on after a good weekend of fun.

I used to do it when I was in the scouting organiziation.. in fact almost all of our camping was in the winter as most of the kids were farmer kids so hard to get away any other time.

Nice thing about winter is no bugs. We didn't have all the wonderful synthetic stuff that is available nowadays so it would be pretty easy. The coldest we slept was -38. In recent times I slept in -14 or so with my present gear and it was the nicest night of sleep I have had in the last 10 years anywhere. I honestly cant say I am much of a camper nowadays so can't offer much advice. (But when I do sleep in a tent I want to be COMFORTLE and WARM!)

Just don't cheap out on gear, use synthetics so that moisture doesn't do you in (if using down be very careful to keep things dry. (I use Wiggy Sleeping Bags with Great success and an Exped Synmat 9 air mattress. Way expensive but amazingly comfy and warm and packs very small!)

That's a wicked air mattress, Tom. How long have you been using it?

I bought a Bass Pro Shops 1 person tent. It isn't the best quality, but it is definitely waterproof. Like any tent, it should be seam-sealed before. It poured rain the night we slept and the tent didn't leak a drop. I don't know about the longevity of this tent though.

I think I got it two maybe three summers ago. I actually got what was called the Symat 9DLX. I recently got a second one in case my GF ever wants to spend time in the tent amd the designation has changed slightly.

It has the built in pump which takes a bit to inflate but this thing packs real small (less than a foot long and maybe 5 inches thick) yet is thick enough when inflated that a big side sleeper like me can be comfy. It's expensive but worth it for me.

that's pretty bad ***. total cost of your camp sir? and were you at gtam tmp track day?

Tent - <$20
Foldout chair (great for lubing the chain) - <$10
Tarp/base - $9.99 (cut in half, shared it with a buddy)
Emergency blanket - $1.99 (base layer inside of the tent)
Smallest sleeping bag from wal mart - $15.99

I'll be using the same kit this up coming weekend/week to goto Vermont + Nova Scotia/Cabot Trail.

And yes, I was at GTAM TMP. Here's me lazing about:

MEC Wanderer when I'm with people, Hennessy Hammock when I'm solo.

Eureka solitaire with a big agnes sleeping pad, works well just ditch the pegs for spikes.Packs really small.I use oxford tank bag and soft bags on a zx14 and can be good for a week

A cheapie $20 tent from crappy tire got me through my first bike trip. Packs down pretty small and really easy to setup. It's never seen rain but I doubt it'll withstand more than a light shower. I used a small tarp underneath for abrasion resistance and to keep it clean.

Inside: sleeping pad, sleeping bag, large dry sac, helmet and backpack.
Outside: dirty laundry

Atmosphere in Eaton Centre had a sale today. I bought a MSF hubba hubba for $230+ tax in. Wow this thing is easy to set up! just need to buy a foot print and look for a bag and mat. i was thinking the big agnes sleeping system. I don't have panniers, so I might buy a kriega us-30. I'm gonna stick with good gear, just in case I still hate camping, then I'll sell it all :laughing9:
