What's your solvent of choice

Lambert oil
4505 Baldwin Street whitby
2145 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6R 1X1- I've never been to this location so i'm not sure if they have it here

You need a blue can to fill up though they wont let you use anything else. I wonder if thats the stuff that broke my o-ring lol
Most times it's the scrubbing with a brush that tears the orings.

I knew a guy that was given some jet fuel for a test and a lot more than was required, five gallons IIRC. Since it's supposed to be like kerosene he figured he would use the rest up in the stove at his cottage. Burnt out the stove.

I use a old soft toothbrush to clean the chain, but hey I just learned cleaning it to much is bad for it. Honestly I would have never of thought of that either.

it's certainly not intuitive to see it that way
it's natural to think clean rollers, links and sprockets are a good thing

but it's internally where the chain wear matters
in theory, once the rollers contact the sprocket they don't rotate on it
they rotate around the internal pin that is lubricated
so some external dirt there isn't a huge deal

all the cleaning damages the orings and can wash that lube out of there
I guess there is a balance to be found

You learn something new everyday... but honestly thank you for all the help

Strong alcohol cheap vodka for a hard surface cleaner. WD 40, marvel mystery for cutting dirt and grease. Don’t forget to rub a good quality mineral engine oil on weld joints, nuts fasteners screw heads, any painted surface with a light chip to prevent corrosion. Especially old chrome with pits too deep to be taken out with autosol
