Whats with all of these fatalties this season?

I took 2 years off of riding, and just picked up a bike....everyone I know is giving me a hard time about it. But I prefer to hear them complain, rather then me being sad every time a bike goes by lol

I noticed the amount of motorcycle deaths this season is at least 4 times more then I remember in over 10 years of riding. Because of this im getting tons of grief from my friends and family....... I believe that 90 percent of these accidents can be avoided if the rider is prepared. I've had tons of close calls, but I think my experience has saved me from everyone of them.

I just wanted say be safe out there people, and pay attention to what your doing.

I'm not sure how you get the idea that there are more or less deaths than previous years. The trend in the last 10 years is way down.

What the hell had happened in 2005? Oh, right, new K5/K6 model of GSX-R1000 was released... aka "the quickest production motorcycle on the planet".

Definitely felt like most of them were in the first two good weekends of riding this year. Up or down the amount sucks. Pay attention and stay safe people.

02 to 05 was an era of big sales, when a 16 yr old could insure a zx10r.

Should I sell mine :???:

Good reminder to be aware, though I wonder statistically what car deaths are in ratio or whatever re bikes, I mean we see horrific auto accidents daily, and
no one really thinks less of driving a car...but just too get off subject a wee bit.

Last year was sipping coffee at Tim's in my local area, a driver comes crashing through the front window inches away from me and my friend, I stll have glass stuck
on my leather jacket, not my time to cash in I guess (true)

I think here on a forum like this and in the age of instant news, it's probably just we're hearing more about them rather than them being more common.

Suffice to say, it makes me think every I read one of the reports. All we can really do is do our best to me mindful of the road, ride not only for ourselves but for those around us. We need to pretend everyone around us does not know how to drive/ride so we can anticipate or be ready for reaction.

No more then any other year. May/June are never good months.

There's not more deaths this year, there's just more news coverage. And I think that's a good thing, it makes cagers more aware of us.

I thought the same thing.. until you look at the stats, its probably the same for the time of year as previous year. It would be interesting though to see how many accidents are of single vehicle collisions vs multiple vehicles... and what type of bike is involved. I have some certain theories on things...

the "fallen riders" section also makes us much more aware of practically every bike that may have fallen over.

more awareness =/ higher rates.

see the autism debate. a larger categorization/better diagnosing does not necessarily indicate increased rates of the disorder.

I totally agree and do these stats. record the types of bikes being involved in these fatalities or the length of riding experience of the riders involved? These would be interesting stats as well.

It's better for the human species to let the stupid die.
