Whats the "sweet spot" for you

He only has to make it to the next RCMP motorcycle depot ;)
plus he has flashy lights a siren and doesn't need to pay much attention to the speedometer or road signs.

In fact; he can flash on the lights and do a burnout on the way to a timmy's run 300 meters away, :cautious:seen it done.

Are KX80 and the like suitable for adults? Excuse my ignorance but I don’t think I’ve actually seen one in real life
My wife has a kx100 and is rediculous fun but not a plinking around bike it is a 30 hp wheelie machine. And kind of stupid fast also a bit too small for me but fits under 5'4" ok. The big wheel kx 80 is the same size the small wheel one way to small for a adult. I have a 250ktm 2 stroke trail bike. A klx would be ok for trails at low speeds.

We are small people lol. I’m 5’7 and maybe 180 so that’s what’s kept me away from most dual sports as they’re ridiculously tall for me. Wife is 5’4 or so. But she won’t sit on one as she’s scared.

You could try the 100 but i think it might be a shock how fast it is a KLX140 would be good for your wife or you just for plonking around but you will quickly find out suspension sucks badly a KTM 125 or 150XC would be perfect but possibly out of budget. Actually on second thought a KX100 could be cheap and fun.

Probably not.

About the smallest I would go as an entry level bike is a DRZ125. You can pick them up new for just over $3K.

pffff wheelie control, why would you need that on a BMW, it should wheelie just fine

It'll be closer to
I wonder how much more you can get by ditching emissions and poking the computer. That's amazing specific horsepower for a compliant engine.
It'll make a huge difference in the midrange, as the BMW is gimped in North America to meet EPA regulations. Kawi has a similar problem. I haven't seen basic tunes (ECU, pipe, air filter) make much difference up top, though. Maybe a few hp, but the old days of unlocking 10+ peak hp with a slip-on and Power Commander seem to be over...

Dyno numbers are such a crapshoot, and peak hp doesn't really tell you much, but here's the dyno hp results from a recent Superbike shootout in Fast Bikes magazine:

Aprilia RSV4 1100: 206
BMW S1000RR M Sport: 205
Ducati Panigale V4S: 199
Honda CBR-1000RR-R SP: 194
Yamaha R1M: 187
Kawasaki ZX-10RR: 186
Suzuki GSX-R1000R: 180

They ranked the BMW first, the Aprilia second, and the Honda third on the road, and the Honda first, Aprilia second, and BMW third at the track. The Aprilia ran the fastest lap time, followed by the Honda, then the BMW. Weirdly, they crashed the BMW, which also happened on the 44 Teeth mega test...

One more R and the Honda would be 200+

At 5'6" 150lbs I'm smaller. I had a DRZ400 (slid the fork tubes up the triples about 3/4" and carved an inch of foam off the seat) and now I'm having a blast with my 06 KLR (lowering links only). So don't let size scare you.

Same height as you, just a few lbs less. For my own comfort, the point at which I deem a motorcycle seat too high is when I can't put one foot on the rear brake and the one tippy-toe on the ground. This lets me ride bikes with a 38" seat height on a 29" inseam.

However, in Japan, I saw a tiny lady pull up on a sport bike that she couldn't get even one foot on the ground. When she pulled up to a stop, she dismounted with just one foot on the peg before the bike came to a stop. Starting off, she'd stand next to the bike, and when it got going and gained momentum, she quickly threw one leg over the seat and rode off.

Very inspiring for us shorties.

Awesome. I've never seen anyone hot load a bike before. Some of the old jetskis (like HX) were too unstable while stopped so you hung onto the bars, got the thing planing and then climbed on.

"Hot load", never heard that term before.

Made the mistake of Googling "hot load" and "motorcycle" without thinking... Silly me.
