You are driving along the street and a 5 year old girl runs out on the road away from her mom and other people waiting at the bus stop. You don't have time to stop, you are stuck between hitting the kid (possibly killing her), steering into oncoming traffic (possibly killing the oncoming occupant(s) and your self) or hitting the people on the sidewalk waiting for the bus (possibly killing some of them).

What do you do?

Go for the kid. Lower body count.

One kid
or
at least 2 people (driver of other car and yourself)
or
X amount of people waiting for the bus.

Besides that, I'm sure the other 2 options (sidewalk or oncoming) would put the driver into some kind of legal/liability mess.

Steer for the oncoming car. They're designed to crash. Hell I'd do it just for kicks.

The question is would you have time to think rationally if it happens in 0.000000001 secs

Assuming you're in a cage yourself.
CG says, "driving along", not "riding along" but doesn't specifically state your vehicle type.

Hit the kid, then sue the parents for damages. If you steer into oncoming traffic how are you supposed to make any money? Oh wait I forgot this isn't the US of A.

if there's no time to stop, chances are by the time u can make the decision, you already ran over the kid. if there is time, slam on the brakes and hope for the best. pretty sure if u swerve and crash, u will be charged.

Definetly wouldn't hit the kid. I saw a kid get hit when I was a kid: It wasn't pretty and I still think about it a lot. Ummmmm I'm going into traffic. I think a person's reflex is to steer away from a kid but who knows?

so u steer into traffic and hit another car carrying an infant head on...? or a person with a heart condition and driver dies of an heart attack

Engage the instant-priming self destruct, that way I'll be the only casualty.

I knew a kid who was hit by a car running in the street. Had lots of reconstructive surgery to his face.

Anyway I would avoid predicting what I would do in this situation, as I could say anything here and might do something completely different at the time.

what happened to the driver?

I swallow the red pill instantly!

I'd try to lay her down and hopefully slide under the kid. On coming traffic? No way unless it were one of my own kids.

If there's not enough room to steer a motorcycle around a kid out on an open road, then there have to be a whole lot of other things going wrong. The scenario only makes sense we're supposed to be in a car.

Bus stop with many people suggests urban setting, which suggests a 60 or 70 kmph limit at upper end, and possibly even a 40 or 50 kmph limit at the lower end.

At that speed, going into oncoming traffic is a viable choice. The oncoming traffic may be able to swerve out of my way. Even if not, a crash between seatbelt and airbag-equipped vehicles at typical urban speeds offers much more chance of survival than a crash into an unprotected kid.
