What to loctite and what not

Just thought about this. Kawi uses some type of red locktite on their brake rotors.

so its used.....

Lots of places on the zx6r use red or orange. Even the rear hugger on my 2013 used red on all 3 bolts that hold it onto the swingarm. Off the top of my head subframe, foot peg mount, rearsets, chain guide, water pump cover, generator coil, all brake rotors, had red from the factory

YES! That true....chain guide does...water pump cover does....and YES! stator does as well

I can't remmeber...how about the bar ends?

My new Ikea office chair has blue locktite on all the leg bolts. Dont want a swivel recliner coming apart while your typing or talking on the phone.

Absolutely not. Loctite may lead to headaches down the road should you wish to remove the front sprocket.

Just a small follow-up on this:

Today I'm changing the sprockets and chain, and when I removed the sprocket cover I was unfortunate to see that I not only put loctite on the sprocket nut when I last changed it, but it is also Red. I used the heat gun to heat it up for about 2-3 minutes, put it in gear on side stand, asked wife to step on the rear brake, used impact driver with a non-impact socket---nut gave right away, so I guess I'm lucky. On a side note, maybe I shouldn't have had it in gear, I don't know what I was thinking---maybe that put unnecessary stress from the impact gun on the tranny. Rear brake was fully engaged, so hope I didn't do much damage.

Why didnt u use a propane tor h of some sort. I dont think a heat gun makes any difference, lol.

I'm sure your transmission is fine. Brakes were also applied

Next time I'll know to use the propane torch :)

By the way, the manual calls for Suzuki thread lock 1342 for the front sprocket nut. I guess that's blue.

I think you're analyzing things too much. I remember there was 2 nuts on that spindle. Even if it wasn't loctite, I don't think that would go anywhere if properly torqued.

On my Suzi, I have used blue and my sprocket haven't fall off for 2yrs

I'll let u in a little secret, I'll probably get flamed for this, but when I remove the rear sprocket, I don't use loctite :) I think the old loctite already put there originally causes enough friction.
Don't scream at me.

Gsxr's also have a locking nut that has a locking thread built into the nut itself

Then there is another m8 bolt holding the speedo sensor thingy ontop of the nut

Yep. If I recall correctly, one is reverse thread so that when the shaft spins it will most likely torque the nut more

Both are regular thread but the shaft spins counter clockwise
They can and have spun off in some rare cases, but pretty hard for that to happen if they are tightened properly
I've had to cut some off with a grinder even thou no locktite was used. Torch and the largest impact gun from an auto garage would not even budge one.
