In the sub-culture of ADV/Dual Sport, tire technology has developed quite rapidly over the years, getting the most out of grip and longevity, off-road and on-pavement.

In my short time ADVing, I've seen the tire-du-jour go from the Heidenau K60s, to Mitas E-07s and now to the Dunlop Trailmax Missions. These are hyped up on the forums and discussion groups, and YouTube as well. And not from the moto companies, but from average punters talking them up and posting review and comparison videos on YouTube.

I've also seen gear technology develop as well, the Alpinestars Tech 7 off-road boots have a cult-following, now it's the new Gaerne SG-22 that's being hyped up.

Obviously, it depends on what moto item it is. Change out some items, try to buy the same for others.

Those Shell Rotella T6 guys will be embalmed in that stuff when they die. Also, some guys will be buried wearing their Daytona boots.

Personally, I am completely 100% happy with my BMW All-Round boots, I've bought like five pairs of them over the last twenty years. Was devastated when they discontinued the line, then ecstatic again when the slightly tweaked version came out as the Cruise Comfort boot - 95% the same boot. What an emotional rollercoaster!

I've had a set of Alpinestars Tech 8s for a decade and a half. They're getting very long in the tooth. So clunky and heavy! I have my itchy finger on the trigger for one of these:

Still looking for that elusive 70/70 tire though. Every time I wear out a set, I peruse the forums, trying to see if there's a better tire that came out. Currently on the TMMs, like most everyone else. Could have better grip off-road, but it's decent and the tire-life is excellent.

So, for you, what items do you always go back and re-purchase and hope they never stop making?

What items have you itching to try something new everytime they wear out?

lol Daytona boots and rotella T6 guy here.

I have a brand new spare set of Daytonas sitting in my trailer for the past two years. I’ll wear my current ones as long as I can.

Also I have a fetish for the Knox backpack which is now discontinued. I have still two brand new ones to use. Reminds me I need to go looking on Kijiji or fb marketplace to see if there any used ones being sold.

Next time you're out shopping try on the Alpinestars Toucan boot. I have both the Tech 7 and the Toucan and the Toucan could very well double as a MX and ADV boot. It has much of the Tech 7 protection yet is a bit more flexible, is very comfortable, and it's waterproof.

For tires check out the Motoz Adventure (not Adventure GPS). It has all the grip you'd want for the tarmac but with much better offroad capability. Even though it's a knobby it's not very loud and it doesn't have the "knobby-wander" on pavement. Can try out my 1290R with them next time you're in my hood (and it's less snowy).

FLY offroad gear is something I always come back to. It lasts, it fits me well, and it's not overpriced.

Change out ALMOST every time: K&N filters. I hate them. I hate the sheen of oil inside the airbox from them. "But that won't happen if you don't over oil them" everybody over oils them. Funny enough, for as big of a market there apparently is for them, I've never been able to sell a used one. I can abide them when the factory filter was the oiled foam, it's disintegrated, and it's easier to just get the K&N

Always go back to: EK Chains. When I need a chain, first thing I look for is can I get an EK Chain for this application with a screw master link. I have a chain press and I still prefer screw links. They are a fantastic, slept-on invention and I wish they were the industry standard

Honourable mention: Motul 7100. I honestly don't KNOW if it is better than other synthetics for any application, and it's just marketing deeply seared into my brain. I feel happier with it in my bike. I wish there was less smoke and mirrors with motor oil, but nobody is motivated to solve it

Aw man, RIP products that never should have been discontinued:

Those who know, know.

Ran out of my stash years ago. They'll live rent-free in my ear canals forever...
I still have a pair somewhere:)
Just need to replace the broken wires, but I kept the earbuds.

I also love my Daytona boots and don't think I'll ever change.

I used to be a T6 guy, but now just use the red Motul juice, mostly because I like KoolAid.

For street tires, for the last several years I've been a strictly Michelin guy - PR4's, Road 5's and now Road 6's.
Wondering if there is a sport touring tire out there with comparable grip, wet weather performance but increased longevity. Price doesn't matter if they feel as good as the Michelin's but last longer.

Will give those Toucans a try.

I'm actually going for a more rigid boot because the guys I ride with are much better than I am and I fall.

A lot.

The Tech 8 MX boots are super stiff and have saved my feet over and over again from countless fractures. Looking for the same rigidity, but much lighter.

Also cross-shopping the Crossfire SRS, but they seem very narrow in the ankle.

As for the MotoZ Adventures:

Gonna spoon 'em on after some early season pavement/light gravel riding with the crappy Pirelli Scorpion STRs that my new bike came with.

Oh, change out every time: stock Pirelli Scorpion STRs.

No tread depth at all. Have the same short life of full-on knobbies but without the grip. Terrible.

They're homologated for street use so pretty much EVERY new ADV bike comes standard with them.

Held Steve gloves. Wore out two sets and I don’t like the new ones. I have the quatro tempo and they are okay.
Loving the Dunlop Roadsmart 3, so far good grip and longevity. But the Bridgestone Exedras were the best and I couldn’t get them last year.
Okay here goes, I switched from T6 a few years ago (that stuff sucks) to LiquiMoly street synthetic, bike seems quieter. 😂

Shoei helmets because they fit my head, my poor relatively empty head.

Sidi boots because they fit my painfully flat and worn out feet with my orthotics. And they've remained waterproof for.......more years than I can recall. I've always greased my work boots and continued to do it with my riding boots. I'm not certain that it matters, but it's something my father and I did together when I was a little kid so I continue. If it was good enough for dad.....

For engine oil I've learned about all the little abbreviations on the containers and shop based on those requirements.

Beyond all that, I'm open to recommendations and sale prices, but I won't buy cheap crap just to have something as my needs are specific and my wallet groans when opened.

Now you've really gone and done it.

Pitchforks and tiki torches at your front door tonight...

I remember a few years (decades?) ago, the GTAM track crowd were all Daytona-Dainese-Torque-boots-or-GTFO. Mention any other brand and there'd be a good 'ole fashioned curb-stompin'-tantrum-fest online.

Over boots.

T5. Saddlemen seats. Klim (jackets only). Shinko 705 & 700 tires.

Im itching to find an adv boot 10EEE with a 17” calf.

I wonder 20 years ago how many people would have said they would always buy a Corbin seat

Been using Dunlop RoadSmart since their first version.
Nice long and even wear (no feathering from the front tires), decent in the rain and reasonably priced (compared to Michelin).
I’ve used Michelin’s for the last several years but am going to try the Roadsmart 4’s as my next tire. Been reading many good things about them for longevity and handling.

Fuel, Oil and Tires. I swear motorcyclists fret more about what they put in/on their rides more than what they put in/on their bodies.

I had a pair of BMW all around boots as well as a pair of their gauntlet style gloves , they were the finest in all the land. BMW use to set up a tent at Mosport every year and blow out their old stock and it was really, really nice stuff.I bought them there about 15 years ago. Then one cold winter night my stepson borrowed my gloves because he had lost his and guess what, he lost mine too…AAAAAAAAARGH!!!!. Fortunately I still have the boots. I couldn’t afford to replace those gloves, they retail for like $300 plus today.

Rotella T6 guy here. Has served me well now in somewhere around a cumalative 200,000 trouble free kilometers across all my various bikes including my wife's spyder, so don't fix what's not broken.

They look quite similar to my Shure SE215 except those are over-ears, but I have the same earplug tips. Probably the same result in the end.

What are these ones specifically?

Dislike as well. I've seen too many intakes (especially in the high-flow non-naturually aspirated diesel world) full of grit that just flew right through the K&N. No thanks, I'm not willing to feed dirt to my engine to maybe unlock a fraction of a horsepower.
