What pickup truck do you use?

I've been playing with idea to get a pick up truck to haul my bikes around. I never had a truck before by the way. Don't need no brand new one either.
What would be ideal box length with tailgate down to be able to carry 2 motorcycles?
So far I like 2004-2005 Ford F-150 crewcab (5.5' box) 4x4. Price seems to be ok and I like full 4 doors.
Please chime in.

If your getting that year of Ford, get ready to burn up some fuel.

Go for a used 09 when they came out with the 6 spd tranny. The fuel difference is huge.

That bad eh? '09 is out of my price range. Under $12K I'd say. I'm open to any other trucks. But has to be 4x4 and 4 doors. Preferably leather too.

Love mine

If I was in the market for a pick up, I'd be going for an 06+ Toyota Tacoma, extended cab w/ short box.

do you really need 4x4?

do you really need 4x4?

or a pickup?

a good trailer is all you need, this isn't big weight. i can't buy a pickup, I look silly with big belt buckles.

02 gmc Sonoma. It isn't a big truck but it does the job. Only paid 1500.. daily driven an my escort to the lot. Two bikes might have you sitting real low though

I have a 2011 F150. The bed height is so high, I bought a trailer for my atv and DR650. The atv isn't bad to load, its 4wd, the DR650 forget it, I did get it in the box once, I had to find a ditch in my neighbourhood to back the back wheels into. No way I could walk the bike down, I have a a good ramp, but it's just too steep.

If I were looking for a truck to haul a bike, I wouldn't go full size. Old, Cheap and Reliable little Japanese trucks like the Nissan pickup which uses 240sx engine and other shared parts is cheap and easy to maintain or the 'indestructible N50 Toyota Pickup (Hilux) or more easily sourced but not as cheap or reliable are the Chevy S10/GMC Sonoma and Ford Ranger.

i have an 05 f150, great truck, never had it break down on me. average 14mpg.thats mostly highway though. not too bad for a 5.4l i think,

was going to sell it but not sure anymore, truck pays for itself the amount of money it has saved me through the years with hauling anything from concrete to bikes to soil. only pay $800 for insurance and am 28 too

I would go with any half ton (F150, Ram1500, GMC1500) American truck that's been maintained and been used for personal use...but that's just me.
I've have a couple trucks but one of my favorites is surprisingly my 2003 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 Hemi with 295k on it! I use it has the shop truck as Speedworx, its been used to pull a loaded 20ft trailer to Mt Tremblant when my diesel was in the shop.

Regular servicing costs next to nothing. I've put over 70k on it and the only service I have had to do is brake pads and one control arm bushing (all in under $500 including labor).
It runs like its brand new and everything still works on it plus it doesn't have spot of rust on it and most people think its a much more expensive truck than it actually is (I probably have less than $7k in the truck with all sorts of upgrades towing/reliability/cosmetic upgrades) Each brand has their little nuances.. learn what they are, keep an eye out for them when shopping for used and budget to repair those issues in the future.

Get a 4x4 if its going to be your only mode of winter transport because a 2wd truck sucks in snow

I have a 2013 F-150 extended cab 6.5 box. I love it but the box height is very high to get a road bike in, dirt/atv is fine. I have a trailer for road bikes. If I didnt need the truck for other stuff it wouldnt be here, too thirsty just to move bikes.

2013 Tacoma access cab,long box,4x4.I ordered it with the 2.7l 4 banger.I get 26mpg combined and about 30 hwy.
