What is he going on about ?

It bothers me that GoogleAds still knows my location even though I'm masking my IP with a VPN and flushing my cookies regularly. Also not logged into Google. I'm still getting ads for local businesses regardless of if my VPN address is Vancouver or Toronto or whatever.

Some kind of chicanery going on underneath the covers.
You got chipped didn't you?

Mobile device?

Install the lockdown app. That really farks up a lot of the tracking - I love it. A lot of websites and apps have got very creative in working around basic blocking.

If your an iPhone user, ensure the “allow apps to track me” feature is disabled in the settings menu as well for *all* apps.

Android phone or didn't use vpn once and google has associated your computer with that location?

Location can be determined using surrounding WiFi spots.
On desktops, I normally don't install antenna and turn off wifi. The key is, there are many many ways for them to figure out where you are and not very many good ways to make them forget.

Amongst a million different things. Sitting next to a friend having a beer at a bar with location services enabled in the wrong app is enough to nail you down, and even give *you* ads for stuff *they* Google in the following hours, because hey, you might have discussed it over those beers. This is the root of many “my phone is listening to me” conspiracy theories. When there’s a simpler technical explanation.

The article didn't read to me like he was bad mouthing anybody or the experience, only lamenting the passing of a perceived better era.

He said he knew the conditions of sale but was hoping for the warm & fuzzy, touchy feely approach. Perhaps if it had been a dealer he had frequented a lot (maybe it was) the outcome would have been different or maybe that's why he's somewhat disappointed.

Having worked in retail I've dealt with a lot worse. From my experience his article was pretty mild in its hope for a return.

In the nursery business:
I had a guy walk into the store, go straight to the rack of high end tools take one off the shelf and come to the counter to get a refund.
I've had someone threaten me with ruining my/our reputation with online reviews if I didn't fill his order him with something I didn't even have.
I've had people dig out stuff from beside the road, attempt to return it on a busy Saturday morning (obviously) without a receipt and loudly call me dishonest.
I've had numerous people try to return plants that died after several years because their dog peed on it, they backed over it or they just didn't like it anymore. With a receipt and a straight face.
And my personal favorite, I've been told that I "ruined the great, rich pageantry of color", in a lady's garden because the rose bushes that I sold her were not the correct shade of white.

Perhaps the threshold where I'll call someone a moron for trying to exchange or return something is a bit higher.

But you helped all these nice people, right?

He forgot to mention he found them after 3 weeks in the drawer of the cabinet in his cigar room.

Toronto Star writer, LOL, what a surprise...not. The sense of entitlement is sickening. You make the mistake, you pay the price, you don't whine about it. It has nothing to do with corporate vs mom&pop mc shops. Why is it always someone else's job to take responsibility for these morons?

No I did not. I Just absorbed their abuse because that's what you have to do sometimes.

The dishonest ones and the guy threatening to post bad reviews, I was abrupt and absolute with, "Just NO, and your yelling isn't going to change my answer."

The ones fishing for something with a straight face, I was polite but firm in that the period had ended YEARS ago and any issue they had was beyond my responsibility.

The ones like Mark, would get a polite "no, sorry." with reasons like he got.

I wouldn't have tried to return the gloves like Mark did after riding 200 kms. If it were me; when I realized that they weren't going to work I would have taken them off so I could take them back to plead my case with them in as-new condition. If they weren't, I wouldn't have even tried.

With the lady with the rich pageantry of color, I made the mistake of repeating what she said while smiling/chuckling. She went absolutely ballistic and stomped out the door leaving her husband, who apologized for her reaction which I did as well. Feeling like crap, I called her (super uncomfortable, thank god for voice mail) and apologized again for my reaction. I offered to attend her house at the right time of the year (fall), dig out the plants that were the wrong shade of white and replant a variety/color of her choosing. Everybody ended up content.

Well at least he didn't just "package" them up and send them back demanding a refund.

Damn, not sure why the link doesn't work. Go to Youtube, search for "stg you can't make this up pt 2"

Can't see it with whatever crap youtube is pulling now. Just "This video is unavailable". Clicking it takes you to youtube homepage.

If you've read Zen and now (which I did) it's obvious moron is the right word.
