What is a KLR good for?

Ewan and Charley were carrying a LOT of camera and video equipment. Doubtful the KLR would have had the grunt to move it. Claudio's R1200GSAs frame cracked as a result of all that weight.

Would the 990 Adventure have fared better in that department? 🤷‍♂️
Could have done it if they had learned how to pack. I remember watching an episode (or reading??) where they decided to lighten the load and decided they didn't need a spare stove. Who brings a "spare" stove?

Is it like being next to an ugly girl who makes you look good? :ROFLMAO:
Most of the KLR owners I know look and act very much like their bikes.

On a serious note, the single smartest thing Kawi did was give the KLR a big tank and a low price tag.

KLRs come dead last in every spec and performance benchmarks when compared with big singles produced by Suzuki, Honda, and Yamaha - except for range and price.

Im surprised in the manual it says 87 octane!

I said it was cheap to fuel. That cheap gas will get you close to 60MPG.

I've had mine since 2011, got close to 40k on it. only thing I've done is replace chain and sprocket. do0hicky. now I'm looking at the thermo-bob.

I've had three bike that i was going to replace it with, but they wasn't as good for me as the KLR.
I've had mine for 12 years and 85,000km. I spent most of the winter looking at new bikes to replace my KLR but in the end I couldn't find another bike that does everything the KLR does so instead I spent $3k on new suspension, a 685 kit to solve a minor oil burning issue and a few more farkles including the Thermo-bob.

Can't really report on the 685 kit yet as it's been too cold to put any real seat time in but the Thermo-bob is working great. Even in 5 degree weather the temp needle comes up to halfway on the gauge and stays rock steady, you know, like it's supposed to...

I don't see any reason why I wouldn't put another 100k on this bike.

Thermo-bob? I've heard of these but I have no clue what problem they are supposed to solve.

A buddy is on his third KLR (one of each gen) and probably put on about 100K. He's never done the dohicky on any of them.

To me it was a piece of mind, when i replaced the doo-hicky it didn't have any issues showing. like i said piece of mind.

Thermo-bob is something i bought a while ago, just never had the chance to install it

Doing the t-hermo-bob at the moment. Also wipped up a aluminum heat shield for the coolant reservoir because my nipple was melted! 😳
Check your nipples!
Fun bike to work on!

Which gen do you have?

Never had an issue. I'll take a look.
My reservoir was full of crap, when I took it apart to clean the lower nipple look deformed. Googled and found this!

KLR is for budget minded adventurers who lack the gene that drives the need for speed.

Dependable, low cost, easy to maintain, and can be repaired or rebuilt with the factory tool pouch.

If I could only own 1 bike and could not afford a Vstrom, I’d have a KLR.
I can usually pick up wee stroms for the same money as KLRS, and much prefer the wee, even over the one I put a 685 kit in.
Might be a different story if I did actual off roading, but then I'd probably buy another DR650.One good thing , after riding a klr the Wee feels extremely powerful, smooth and has fantastic brakes lol (even though they suck)
Quite a bit more fuel efficient as well (at least more than the two KLRs I've had.

One if the few bikes you can just tap your Visa for...
I know a guy who started out on KLRs...
At one point he owned three of them.
Gave them all up to become a BMW ADV guy...

A cheap way to make your KLR or any bike go faster.
Cheap Speed

No!. I meant passing by the ball bearings some a$$hat threw on the road.

But I am all over riding a slow bike fast.
Problem is you can’t ride a KLR fast. I rode one for a few hours during a loop of Superior. The speedo flirted with 75mph, only hitting that mark on slight downhills, 74 on flat ground.

I should mention there were no stickers on the bike, it was still new with 2000miles on the clock. I hear stickers help, I send stickers to my KLR friends.
