What happens to people like this?

Surprised they don't have some of sticker they can stick to the lids the would be torn when removing the lid to prevent this sort of thing.
They do. Home owner reported the opened up drink, and then the guy came back with replacement drinks...this is when the taping started.

I assume he spit into it because he had to pay out of pocket for it...and was promptly caught on camera.

In addition, original video shows 2 kids unbelted in the back seat...$200 fine + 2 demerit points / child received also as the cops showed up when the driver returned with the replacement drinks...

This appears to be the full video....

"Stunned, Bishay said he “bolted” to the front door to confront the driver, but he had already left. After checking the drink seals applied by the restaurant, Bishay confirmed that one had been broken."

Motherf...ers....

I wonder how people that scam grandmothers are treated in prison? Hopefully the prisoners teach them what it is like to be taken advantage of. Scum.

Far too often the police say it is a civil matter and wash their hands of it, it is a common response for reno scams. Many of these scammers just rinse and repeat with no repercussions.

IMO if the "contractors" had no intention of finishing the job (might be hard to prove other than pattern) or used any fraud such as fake company name, using another company's name, etc. the police should consider putting down their doughnuts??? At minimum just hand them to the CRA because I bet they don't pay taxes...

I could never understand why the cops won’t get involved. How’s it a civil matter? It’s outright fraud.

I agree but the counter argument is the potential for a slippery slope. 'they' being contractor

What if they started the job but just didn't finish.
What if they started and in the opinion of the homeowner did a scope bait and switch.
What if they started the job and due to whatever legit reasons (problems, homeowner) the scope changed and so did the cost.
What if they finished the job but just did a totally crap job.
What if they finished and did a great job but Karen is not happy.

IMO a lot of the above is intention but proving that is tricky, the intention is potentially the difference between criminal scam and a tort. Patterns help IMO but unless the police do some effort to establish them... Some like the case in point is a blatant scam outside looking in but is still on the slope. A lot also goes back to how much they get at each step to protect yourself.

It does not help the homeowner get anything but my guess is the best angle to stop the scam ones is CRA, WSIB, etc. We also can't have police investigate every time Karen feels the paint colour she approved is not exactly what she imagined.

For whatever reason, cops try not to get involved with property or financial crime. They focus on speeding, drugs and violent offences. I understand that there aren't unlimited resources but giving all but the most egregious scammers a pass from even looking into them is appalling. Take the statements, tie the statements to a real name/SIN, put a note in CPIC. If the same person gets reported again, it's hammer time.

I'll tell you exactly how they're treated.
The system, staff dont/can't really treat them better/worse than anyone else.
The other cons look up to them as mentors/heros.
Unless of course it's "their" grandmother that got con'd... and then really, they're only mad cuz they didn't con their own granny first.

Wow....

Suitcase filled with cash....

Maybe he deserves it for just sitting there while they kept pummeling his window....has he not heard of reverse?
Obviously targeted...did they disable his Hyundai Genesis SUV somehow?

I agree with you. Throw it in reverse and GTFOOT. The guys are breaking in, you run one over…I’m quite sure there won’t be chargers pressed with that video.

But…we don’t always react to stressful situations in the way we imagine in our heads.

Updated on CP24. Vehicles driver assist system wouldn't let him reverse with an object behind it. Epic fail in this case.
Owns a currency exchange business. Around 100 grand in cash in suitcase.
Security companies charge 400 bucks and hour, he thought would be cheaper to move it himself.

I think it was a set-up.. or inside job. I'm not so sure he was a victim.
