I did say "may", rather than "will", precisely because I don't have any real faith that it will happen that way. I can hope, however, that the system will function as it's supposed to. If convicted it might be picked up by media outside of Hamilton, which would also make Hamilton news outlets look stupid. As I said, I can hope.

Doubtful. For someone that has spent as much time actually peeling back the layers of law enforcement in Ontario, you are still naive. It will drag on until his retirement, which amazingly enough is the end of this year. Wanna put money on the percentage ratio of his fine vs. wages collected while suspended? Jail time is a dream. What country do you think you live in?
Even worse...Stonewall's was opened with the $300k+ in kickbacks he received from the three different towing companies that SIU has tracked down. This SOB is the picture perfect example of what 172 was going to create...and he is going to walk away with his 30/70 pension. And a money generator retirement plan.

If you have proof of this, rather than just rumour, then I urge you to contact The Crown and pass it on. It could be critical in obtaining a proper sentence. Also, if true, then it would make him a prime candidate for either the Provincial or Federal forfeiture laws. If members of the public have knowledge of wrong doing, and yet fail to act, they are then complicit in the sort of corruption that they claim to decry.

And, just a little reminder, it was myself and just a very few others on this board who predicted that this sort of thing would be the ultimate outcome of HTA 172.

Are there not rules with respect to liquor licenses and criminal convictions (assuming he is found guilty)? Even if the punishment for the conviction is a slap on the wrist...

There are but it is mainly applied to "new applicants" not existing holders. But he could simply transfer the name of the licence holder. Also given that his conviction will have nothing to do with an "alcohol related incident" then AGC are unlikely to act upon it.

I think that a bunch of separate people emailing the various news outlets, to remind them that this case hasn't gone away, might be a better and more effective method.

Well there's not supposed to be a final resolution until November, so........

I find it very annoying, and more than a little guilty of 'bringing the administration of justice into disrepute', that this has been moved around so much that it has become essentially impossible for interested parties to attend.

The government spends millions on legal fees to bury their mistakes and those of their employees. Can you imagine the can of worms that would be released if the antics of government employees became known?

I'm angry, not surprised. Remember, I was one of the people who predicted this very situation when HTA 172 was being bandied about.

You fully understand.

To those that don't, when you confront the government on their incompetence or even criminal behavior they will throw a bank of world class lawyers at you. You will have to hire a lawyer to help you through the minefield of legalities.

They will drag it out for years while your legal bill is running up like a taxi odometer. Remember, you are buying their ammunition with your tax dollars

If you win, Canadian settlements in most cases are a fraction of what we hear of in the USA.

And as a reminder I fortold exactly how this case would be fizzled two years ago.

All that matters to the occupying army in blue is staying in good graces with the union.

This is, unfortunately, also my view of the issue but I want to give the courts a chance to properly deal with it, before coming to a final conclusion. At this point it seems that I'll have to go digging in order to find out what that conclusion was, at that.

I hope you're rich. The stonewalling is likely at the taxpayers expense (Correct me if I'm wrong. I might be).

I am told if you want access to documents and the powers that be don't want you to have them they comply at a dollar or two per page and insist on giving you 50,000 pages of mostly useless background info, no Cole's notes.

This generally happens when a poorly written FOI request is made. If you say something like "... any and all information pertaining to..." then don't be surprised when a truck full of paper rolls up to your door, and you're presented with a multi-thousand dollar bill.
