What do you think is a good price for a 2010 Ducati Monster 696 ABS?

Hey All, Ill keep this short.

Im looking to upgrade from a 250CBR to a 2010 696 Monster. The Monster I checked out is going for $5K, its in immaculate condition, it was serviced recently. Its at 17K KMs. Do you think $5000 for this bike is a good deal? Any idea if Ill be able to sell this for roughly the same price in 2-3 years time?

Appreciate any advice you guys may have, thanks!
 
Seems reasonable to me. I could be wrong.

@Wingboy and others may be able to chime in on maintenance (specifically belts). Many people dump duc's right before a belt service as it is quite pricey.

Thanks for the response, the owner actually did the belt and desmo service right before he put it up for sale (shoulda mentioned that). I may pull the trigger on this one as Im assuming these are more expensive come spring/summer time. Any idea how much these usually go for during riding season?

That's an ok price for buyer and seller if it's in good shape. It will depreciate with time.
I would still have the belts checked. Just because he did them. Doesn't mean they are correct. Same goes for clearance check.

Agreed, if there’s clear evidence in an invoice or similar that belts AND valve check/adjustment was completed. If he did it himself, does he have receipt for the belts, did he document the valve specs (I always do before and after). If not, does he really know what he’s talking about and doesn’t just spew b.s.?

If it was done, it wouldn’t be due again until 24k I believe. To be honest I don’t think that’s a bad price even if not done, I would just do it myself after purchase.

A dealer's invoice for services is best.
Sometimes belts need to be replaced well before the 12k is reached. Just talked my neighbor into having new belts put on his 2014 Monster 1200. They were original with only 6k on the the bike. He was ****** because they didn't even look worn. Lol.
If you have worn out belts, and your motor doesn't go clang. You have a horseshoe up your bum.
 
just got belt change, valve adjustment, throttle balance done for just over $1000. a biyearly ritual on older ducs.
you can definitely do it yourself, if you are handy & have proper tools.
 
for a 2010 monster that seems like the normal price for it. not sure why they would have already done desmo and changed the belt at 17k though. seems odd.

i've had an air cooled ducati for a few years, and the maintenance cost and crazy heat from the engine in city riding conditions prompted me to get another bike entirely. also good luck finding neutral lol.

You're not sure why they changed a rubber belt that is 11 years old and results in destruction of the engine if it fails?

totally didnt take consideration of the age of the bike. i was thinking of my 2016 ducati which has exactly almost 17,000km on it too.

Or inspection of the idler and tensioner bearings for the belts. Another place that can result in catastrophic engine failure.
