What do you consider overkill for the street?

Didn't know using them was a bad thing.

If you are pushing hard enough to use them then you have left very little safety margin. At the track not a huge deal. On the street...crash barriers and oncoming traffic don't leave much run off room. 18 years of street riding and 14 years of playing at the track I have yet to come close to touching my knee down on the street.

It can be done on those long sweepers:

I wear my pucks :-)

The argument isn't whether or not it can be done. Lots of things can be done. But should they?

Keep in mind that there are also a lot of unreported single vehicle accidents on those long sweepers.

My pucks are in a box somewhere in the basement.

9/10 noobs surveyed have never seen it done on street. They keep the bugs/debris out of the velcro and make you look hard as nails which will get you in the "Picking up Chicks" thread :-)

Twist of the wrist has very good tips on body positioning. I move my body way off the motorcycle, but my knee stays tucked in. That way you get the benefits of proper body positioning without looking bait or risk of dragging knee(which is low).
