What do I need to know for buying a helmet online?

If you go to the store, please don't get anyone to help you. I just dislike when people that work in the stores get their time wasted by those who have zero intention on buying from them...

But yes, go try some on...many ppl that want the arai simply cuz it's an arai and everyone says it's the best, dont' like the fitment, say as opposedt to a shoei or agv, say....

Again though. there's no evidence the one in the shop wasn't dropped either. I've never bought a helmet in a store that came in a sealed box that I knew had never been opened. I'm not sure how that's any different from buying through the mail. All I'm saying is that whether you buy in a store or online there's no guarantee that the helmet hasn't been abused.

Its one thing to trust the store employees not to drop it, a whole different story to trust random people who buy them, wear them and do as they please and then return em.

Your life, your choice.

BTW there's a reason display model helmets cost less

We seem to have had completely different experiences buying helmets in stores. I've never gotten a "display" model nor seem that the ones on display are offered at a reduced price. I have asked to try on a helmet and had the salesperson get one for me, from a box, to try on. I've then worn that for a while and given it back, they put it back in the box and put it away - not on display. As I say, we have different experiences.

Personally, anything I buy I check when I take it out of the box, whether at the store or out of the mail, and ensure it isn't obviously damage nor lice-ridden. So for me, it doesn't matter whether it's online or from a store. I've had good luck both ways, although only had any bad luck buying from a store.

Even buying the same make, but a subsequent model can spell changes that could be a disaster. I had a Shoei RF900 which I loved. 5 years later, it had been replaced by teh RF1000, which after 1/2 hour used to give me headaches. Next helmet I switched to Arai. And I did try it on in the store - evidently not long enough though. I can't imagine purchasing one without trying it on first.
