What did you do in your garage today..?

I think it'll need some 7/16" ny-lock nuts, but it seems to be pretty good.

Take the nuts off, turn them on their side, strike a dimple into the nut with a punch and hammer. Voila, locknut.

Perhaps. I want to be able to take it off if need be. I put lock washers and blue lok-tite on it, but I don't trust they'll stay put. Ny-lock nuts are cheap.

It is a farm bike. My plan is that the wife can ride it on fire roads, and easy double track. That might be a pipe dream... it may end up being a "buddy bike" to get friends hooked on offroad riding, or cottage bike for family. Deal was too good to say no, but I'm trying to do this on the cheap.

Ali-Express, here I come!

My KTM was leaking oil from the stator cover. To figure out where it was coming from, I dried the surface and sprayed talcum powder all over. This is what it looked like after a short spirited ride. It wasn't leaking from the grommet, but from all around (other side too), which was weird. When removing the cover to replace the gasket, I realized that whoever was in there last must have thought the gasket was optional and left it out! At least they didn't use RTV, which would have really made my day.

Putting together a cb750 engine..
How's your supply of valve keepers? Was about to assemble the the head and can't find the keepers anywhere.

Funny you should ask, looking for enough to put the head together on this one. How many do you need? 16?

Oddly I have a container with about 11. 11 might as well be zero so pop by if you need some, at least one of us should finish a head.
The SOHC forum says you can still order from Honda, who knows if that's true. CB750Vintage didn't carry them.

I have found enough to do this head plus the 5 you need. Call me and if you’re still going up to beaver valley you can drop in on the way and pick them up.

Thanks Lash.
Just had a friend call me. He was honing my jugs to apply some cross hatching for the new rings - turns out only two of 4 were round. I'll pick them up early this week and see just how bad it is. Considering I've put them together w/o fresh rings or any honing I may just throw it together.

Not really in the garage but bike related. The foam liner in my top case was starting to fall apart. I also noticed that some hard items stored in the top case have a tendency to rub against the bottom of the case where the foam liner doesn't cover which can potentially create a hole in the future. I do leatherwork as a hobby so I grabbed some leather and made a new liner.

My Katy Mary 990 also has some slight oil leak that I cant find. I'll check the stator cover.

Supposedly the common sources of oil leaks are the oil pressure switch that's hidden behind the crankcase ventilation hose, and the rubber grommet sealing the stator wires.

Great craftrmanship.

Consider getting one of these inner linners. They are made of neopreene. I have one for each one of my cases.

I just brought home a wood lathe for my garage shop, it’s got a 1hp 3ph electric motor (220 or 575). I only have single phase in my garage. I need to resolve the power, I’d also like to upgrade to a speed controller so I don’t need to move belts.

I don’t want to kluge wire a 3ph to work on single phase. I can swap the motor to single phase and add a speed controller and rev counter. The other thought is to keep the 3ph and add a VFD.

Leaning toward the VFD as it’s cheap, easy, and they come with integrated speed controllers. It looks simple enough, and I don’t see a torque loss - am I missing anything?
