What did you do in your garage today..?

Started building rearsets for the project. The corrugated template on the right was my first design but I decided to change it to match some left over aluminum plates I had to cut out about half the jig sawing. But now the shape looks odd after I decided to use only half the bolts. Oh well...

Isn't that the white board the grankids like to clean?

What are the clearance specs

Bearings came 3 days earlier than expected. Rain day for me, so I had time to put them in, and grease them up.

No more side play.

It'll be a yearly thing (clean and grease) them.

In Markham I generally get raccoons breaking into my garage.

At my place up north, I got a bigger fella trying to get in last night. IMG_0434.jpeg

Used Allan Millyard's (likely lots other but that's where I saw it) trick for axially aligning the brake pivot shaft I was shortening. Before cutting it, I chucked it the lath and drilled a 1/4" hole down the center. Then cut it, shortened it, turned the mating faces before using 1/4" rod to align them for welding. Worked mint.

Fought with my wife's rear braking system last night. Something got jammed b/w the pad and rotors on one side so I went at it.

Unfortunately, the Odyssey's electronic parking brake system was more complex than my skills were...4hours mucking around with that, and a friendly GTAMer that was kind enough to drive an hour to come help me out! He can identify himself if he'd like.

Started around 4pm, finished close to 12:30am or so. First wheel took 5 hours due to the issues, second wheel took less than an hour.

I can't express in words how thankful I was for the help last night. This community is fantastic.

There's YT vids on how to deal with the electric parking brake. I have it saved for when I have to do ours.

The electronic parking brake makes things a lot easier than conventional twisting the piston back in when things go well. One small mistake though and it makes a mess.

It’s quite easy if you’re not an idiot like me.

If you know what you’re doing…easy peasy.

Just took the car out for a drive, brakes are fine. No noise. No grinding, and no wheels falling off.

I will take it in for a full brake fluid system flush simply because it’s time and all this work has been done recently. Plus they’ll ensure all is tightened properly.

A homemade mod, or a store bought kit? It's easy and cheap to do on your own with scraps found in the garage.

Good luck!
I ended up buying a general kit from Amazon, but I had to modify the kit by cutting up the rubber and the metal backing plates.

Agreed, you can totally make it at home - but I wasn’t sure where to source that kinda rubber. I think you can use old tires. Next time for sure.

Cutting up old tires is a miserable experience. If I had to do it again, I would use an angle grinder and decent mask. The rubber isn't so bad but the steel belts make the job hard.

I cleaned it. I may attempt to replace the motor mounts on my car so I need room to pull the front end in.

I have a 1 car garage so it will be tight but I'll probably save a few hundred dollars

Thinking of doing this. Can you post a link to the kit you purchased?
