What did you do in your garage today..?

Equipment week in my garage.

Had a big BANG and a cacophony of clanging and pounding metal come from the compressor. Both connecting rods snapped. Looks like the bearings wore down the crankshaft. Can't complain, $150 in parts and she'll be like new.

Finished annual service and installed new blades and fresh paint on the wood chipper. Kijiji bound.

Gonna tackle the tiller repair I botched last
year. TIP: When replacing a worn drive chain, make sure you remember to put the new chain in before closing the case.

Same here. Or buy them when on sale and find out you already have 2.
Anybody want a bucket scoop? Facepalm.

Was looking for some small pouch to carry a few things during this project.

As luck would have it dad had an old set laying around which are perfect. He likes to carry anything and everything and I like the bare essentials instead of the big *** carry belts with all the pockets full.

Wow that's a biggie. When I buy another adv bike another Multi is likely tops on the list but like last time I'll test the Tiger again. The latest updated one is growing on me looks-wise.

I would have gotten a Multi, but there's no need for that kind of horsepower. The Tiger 900 still has too much, but not nearly the deliberate excess of the Multi.

The plan is to test it out, riding down to Alabama for the Barber Vintage Festival. My 650 Vstrom made it fine, but didn't have cruise, and had a small issue passing on the 85 mph highways. But, first, the Tiger and I are joining a Harley group, riding around the Great Lakes.

Weird failure last weekend, inside arm of the rear caliper broke off:

I had to move the brake pad out of the way to wheel the bike around, otherwise it would catch on the spokes... I don't think I hit a rock because there's no damage to the spokes which is a cm away from the caliper? Weird.

Anyway, went into the dealership and ordered a new caliper. $355. Ouch. Brake pads were chipped as well, so got some new pads and some DOT 5.1.

Cleaned everything off and removed the brake pads just to get a closer look at the damage. Weird.

New caliper. So shiny! And expensive... Brembos.

Bled the brakes, topped up with the good stuff. Put everything back together again.

EBC pads with the bling red back plate!

That's worth an email to Brembo about imo.

Are you missing a rotor bolt?

Anyone here have any experience with PB Blaster?

I've got a couple of Torx head bolts (hate this type of fastner) that were over tightened, the heads are just starting to strip. Also inside the engine so I don't want to f-around with this. So I thought I would try the above, and if I need to, cut a slot into the head and try that.

Maybe try a heat gun if you know that threadlocker that was used on the bolt.

I have some. Meh. New stuff is not magic. I think the formula changed long ago. Heat is almost always your best bet for stuck fasteners.

If it's inside the motor, will a heat gun be enough? And if it's already lubricated by engine oil, PB Blaster isn't going to buy you anything. If the above are true, you're going to need a torch.
I've never had luck with a heat gun. Even a propane/mapp torch is sorely outgunned for most bolts (the engine is a giant heat sink after all). A torch that adds oxygen to the flame (or an induction heater) so you can get the bolt cherry makes a world of difference.

Huh, is this your way of say hot red? I only have a propare torch (for soldering copper pipes), I don't think it will be enough or will it.
