True, but bringing this back down to an HTA matter, without a serious matter at hand, I don't think that those titles would matter much. Criminal matters would change things.
The rules are the same. Largely it comes down to perception: That the witness, regardless of relationship to the accused, could/would not lie because of their moral fortitude.
I'd like to see the prosecutor tell the court that a Captain in the Canadian Forces is likely lying because of their relationship to the accused.
