Got a critter living under my barn, planning on setting up a trail cam to see what it is, but I thought we'd have some fun and guess.
The hole is pretty big, so not a mouse etc.
It eats anything (Omnivore) and leaves pretty big messy poops. Not pellets like a Rabbit.
It is not out during the day (I think).
It appears to be solitary.
It does not seem to travel far from the barn. No idea where it gets food.
It comes out during the winter.
Does not appear to chew on wood etc.

Any guesses?

Raccoon is always the first guess. It wouldn't have made the burrow but is happy to live in it.

Perhaps, what ever it is, it'll be moving out in the spring time.
We live on a pretty open space, so Rocky would have to cross some open land to get to the safety of the tree.
I was think perhaps a fox for this reason..

That would be a far prettier (and imo more welcome) guest.

Footprints in the snow should solve this mystery without bothering to wait for a trail cam to hit.

First obvious guess is racoon.

Small coyote?

Agreed, but for some reason I have not seen any good ones, but I know something is there as I seen fresh poop.

The suspense is killing me....go kill it @Jampy00 and let us know.

What's the prize for getting it right?!
Ha! not going to kill anything, I'll just ask nicely as I flood the den then fill it with concrete.

I thought they stayed in the trees?

No. I've had several of them in the yard. As with everything else that comes into the yard after dusk, it didn't end well for them.

We have the occasional opossum here in Oakville , @jampy , what do the poops look like ? Coyote is very dark almost black and often contain hair. Racoon is dog like but short and usually a lot in a pile .
