2. Upgraded to a Cardo Freecom 4+ for the following reasons:
- got tired of having to take my hand off the bar to control the device (volume, answer, modes, etc.)
- the killer was having to hold the track skip/repeat button for 2 seconds, which doesn't sound like much, but try it in stop and go traffic
- Cardo Freecom 4+ was the cheapest unit with completely hands free operation
- Intercom was still a nice to have, but didn't feel the need to connect to more than just one other device, so no need to go to a higher model with mesh. Although this device supports 4-way, it's a bit finicky in how you set it up - you basically pair in a daisy chain, so you really only pair with one or two devices, and so on with the others.
how effective did you find the voice activation commands on the freecom 4?
Does it accurately understand you?

Looking to also pick up a bluetooth comm system myself, primarily because the android auto requires it...

For those who ride with a comm system, I assume you just attach it to either side of your helmet, and then the speakers are attached to the comm unit?

Every one I've seen attaches to the left side of the helmet. Some cheap units have the speakers and mic hardwired to the main unit. My Sena 3s has the speakers hardwired, but the mic is detachable (using a possibly proprietary connector) because it gives you two options - a boom style for open or flip up helmets, and a "permanent" one that Velcro's to the inside of a full face chin bar. I mounted the boom inside my full face because reviews said the boom was better at noise cancelling and my helmet is noisy. My Cardo has detachable speakers and mic. I think the mic is proprietary, but the speakers may be universal 2.5mm??? (been a while since installed it).

The Cardo voice commands work great for the ones I use often, and the others are much easier to remember than the button/press/hold combinations. Google and Siri haven't worked consistently, but I think it has more to do with the corporate MDM policy applied to my (company's) phone.

As mentioned, my helmet is noisy so sometimes it won't pick up what I'm saying if I'm going fast on the highway, so I'll have to yell it out a second time, but for the most part it's been good. Still SO much better than having to reach up every time. That said, I have no foreign accent, so I can't comment on that aspect. But I don't recall you having one either. For reference, here is the list of voice commands from the 4+ manual (FYI, they have release a newer version I think it's called the 4x):

I have a Nolan modular helmet, and a windscreen on my R1200RS. The voice commands are amazing and work fabulous. Its a game changer for ease of use. The JBL speakers are fine, but I never use them. Instead I use high quality custom fitted earphones sold by an Audiologist. They block all of the engine noise, and most of the wind noise as well. The speakers connect to the freecom with an audio jack. I unplug the speakers and phug in the custom earphones. The sound is amazing! With most wind and engine noise blocked, music volume can be lowered saving your hearing. Phone calls and hearing my buddy over the intercom is insanely clear at HW401 speeds. Don't like the track your listening to? Hey Cardo, next track. Want to hear the same track again? Hey cardo, previous track. Works every time! So far I have listened to music for over 7 hours and the battery has not run down. The cardo connects to my Garmin zumo GPS, phone and my buddies Freecom 4X when its powered automatically everytime with no user input. These units work really really well.

. I recommend the Cardo Spirit HD. Cheap and battery lasts forever and very loud.
Sounds like you have tried them, how is the sound quality on the spirit HD?

Sena 20S here - partly because my HJC lid was pre-configured for the Sena system; and mostly because since I ride solo most of the time, compatibility wasn't an issue.

Pairs fine with the BMW Nav VI, and with my phone... I get voice prompts, listen to music, and can receive phone calls no issues. It was a good deal through Amazon; which was, to be honest - the ultimate factor.

I have to go back and forget my connections and reconnect everything between my Samsung phone, Cardo Freecom 4+ and Garmin Zumo.
Originally, I didn't have the Garmin, so everything was hooked up through the Triumph.
I was getting music, when I didn't want it. Finally got rid of it. Now I need to get it back WHEN I want it.
I may have connected the Freecom on the channel where the Garmin should be, and vice versa.

I love the voice commands as well. Main reason I picked the Cardo Freecom 4+ as well.
In my experience yelling doesn't seem to work, I find lowering my voice and more gentle tone works best.
Kinda like you'd talk on a first date ;)

ended up getting the cardo spirit HD, got it mostly for android auto and navigation, its a nice unit, problem is my HJC is a fairly loud helmet, and for music its no bueno, oddly enough the google maps audio directions are always crystal clear

So I just put my ear plugs on and use it for directions.
Thankfully its the cheapest unit in their line up, so I didnt lose any money.

Waiting for my usb cable so I can see what android auto is like.

FWIW I find the sound improves with some NoNoise Earplugs

I find that I need my phone volume at max and then adjust up and down with the cardo unit (Cardo Q-solo).

Does the Spirit HD come with the velcro booster pads that go between helmet and speaker to basically move the speakers closer to your ears? That will help.

Also, I took a pair of ear pads off an old stereo headset and installed them over the speakers. Very comfortable and fills the helmet speaker cavity. Cuts the wind noise way way down. You can buy a pair cheap off AliExpress. Best helmet hack ever.

I listen to music with no issues.
