What bike should I buy?

Ducati Multistrada 1200

Should not leave you bored at all, and give you a sportier version of the V-strom, with much better styling and power through the roof.

That Multistrada S Touring is my dream bike. Maybe within the next year or two.

Religion also bores some people after a while.

Motorcycles like religion, are not for everyone.

Maybe you are a convertible person at heart.

Read up on the fuel tank problems before you look into a ducati. Just an FYI.

Well I have narrowed it down to 2 bikes (from 6).

Bike #1 - 2001 BMW F650GS - 18,000 miles, side and top bag, corbin seat, new chain/tires, 1 owner - $3,400

Bike #2 - 2003 Triumph Tiger 955i - 13,000 miles, side bags, new tires, 1 owner - $3,600

While these are well under my budget, they are priced such that I can ride them and flip them, or even buy a 2nd bike to balance out the garage.

A good friend who has been into riding/touring for many years suggests the BMW; I am leaning that way as well.

If this is what you're talking about it doesn't relate to the Multistrada 1200.

the first bike is a thumper. Unless you are doing a lot of offroad, like... 60% .. I wouldn't recommend it. It's not like the newer f650gs that's actually a twin.

FZ1 - I sold my gen 1 FZ1 in October and have not found anything better to replace it with. The FZ1 was the best bike I have owned but had it for four seasons and it had 60 000 k when I sold it. I just wanted a change.

The bikes I have looked at so far are a 2009 Monster 1100, 2010 Aprilia Shiver 750 and a 2011 Moto Guzzi Griso 8V

So after looking at these bikes, I am now going back to what I ahd bit a little more up to date. So I am looking for a 2008 or newer FZ1. It simply offers the best everything. The FZ1 and FZ8 are very similar but you will miss the 40 BHP going with the FZ8.

I do like he look of the Moto Guzzi but I would need another bike as well for touring.

I do however like the BMW R1200R but it is more than I want to spend.

that would be my vote as well. I come from a Sport bike background and I love the FZ1. Naked doesn't hurt either

The VStrom bored you, the BMW isn't going to be much different, the Tiger will be significantly faster. The last tiger I sat on was really tall though, make sure you throw a leg over it. A tall, top heavy bike may not be the best choice for you (but if it were me, I would get the Tiger for sure).

I am betting he is talking about Ducati and many others defective tanks they have been installing and continue to use on all their bikes that are being dissolved by the fuel in them. Look up class action lawsuit and Ducati, mine is still good but many are not and it effects their entire line up with plastic tanks.

Read this and notice the years/models listed on the lawsuit.

Well I bought a bike today. Should be able to meet the guy at the DMV on Monday and get it transferred over to me.

I ended up with the 2003 Triumph Tiger 955i. It has only 12,000 miles on it. He bought it, did the 12K check then got tendonitis and parked the bike. Took it for a spin today and ran great. Height isn't any worse than my V-Strom so should be fine. Can't wait until I pick it up. Should be a nice ride bringing it back to Canada come spring.

Congrats REV!

Here's hoping that the Triumph version of the Vstrom doesn't bore you.
