What Are You Currently Listening To?

as soon as I figured out the lyrics on this I knew one of the Pink Floyd members had to be a sailplane pilot....and sure enough.
David Gilmour, already an accomplished pilot, learned to fly a sailplane. Shortly after one of his first solo flights he ignored a critical lesson and consequently experienced wing icing and nearly crashed as a result: sailplanes cannot tolerate additional weight and most have no means to melt the ice while in flight. Reference to "the circling sky", "suspended animation" and "state of bliss" are all real feelings one feels while flying a sailplane. He described the feeling as extremely humbling and very fortunate the flight did not end in disaster. Other current events in his and the groups life paralleled the experience and hence numerous metaphors from a real life experience. This information is recalled from a publicized interview of Gilmour many years ago. Rasalas49 (talk) 16:12, 2 December 2009 (UTC
I miss it soooo much at times.... Once in a while on the Gillies I'll get a similar thrill but nothing compares to heeling over in a wing over :giggle:🥴

So go soaring again. Don’t think there is an age limit .
There is not but the tropics is not conducive to the sport tho parts of Australia are excellent.
The main reason is I went as far as I could in it without significant additional expense in time and money and social connections ( to get a cross country team together plus buy a plane. )

My other choice was to teach but did not appeal. Was happy with what I progressed to as a pilot and scratched that life long itch.

Motorcycling is no where near as weather dependent and some low cost thrills that suit my age and budget.
You are correct on age tho ....we had an ex Luftwaffe pilot still TEACHING!!!?? at 86.
Even without passing the physical, pilots can still fly with a fully licenced pilot with them.

That life adventure has passed for me ...just happy I can still ride and enjoy it tho some physical ailments are lurking.

Well you’ll be in the GTA in a few weeks IIRC so maybe grab a flight or two while you’re around?

That actually might work for me.
I just saw the Interrupters at History, but had to leave early as my kid wasn't feeling well.
Had been suffering with an earache and even with over the ear hearing protection he was in pain. So I missed some songs.
Damn
It's a Tuesday
