Went on a really fun drive last night

I checked out the famous forks and was very underwhelmed...yes, one hairpin...
With that being said, I don't know of anything else within one hour of GTA. Pretty boring roads, not liking this grid at all...
Now, if you have time to go in Kawarthas/Muskoka, yes, there are some nice roads.

^^
I dunno, I 've found some really awesome 90+ degrees turns in the GTA, you just gotta look in the industrial areas to find them.

Like Ted from Rosey Toes said to me once "Don't be afraid of taking the back roads", and I am glad I listen, my commute is now a 10 minutes longer but I ride less straight boring roads.

Here is a few examples:

I want to build more of these all over the gta :)

you do realize anyone whose been around for a decent amount of time has been on these "new" roads you're showing us a bazillion times...
next time do, go during the day, on your bike and see how many other riders are out...
what car were you driving, is it any fun to begin with?

Yeah forks is like the street whore, everybody's been on it, thanks for shariing the intention was there.

Now with the toronto subaru club, we had a cruise last fall, we went all the way up to huntsville, was one of our buddie's bday so we ate at restaurant there, and some locals from the club actually showed us more sick roads after restaurant, it was in the dark and felt like a halloween haunt ride.

Wasnt very bike friendly that day as it was rainy + there were leaves on the ground..

Now that would HAVE to be fun during summer time on bike but it is kinda far but definitely worth the drive.
We were about 10 cars riding... most of them boosted but since there were so many turns i had no trouble following in my n/a with my aftermarket springs.

For a guy like me who lives in brampton, forks is a nice scenic route to drive note even 10 minutes away. But driving so long for this ... i'd be more skeptical :)
Great driving roads can be found just outside of toronto.. problem is sharing them means potentially making them heat scores :(

Yeah I knew the forks are really well known, just thought id post up the route I took is all. There are plenty of other "fork like" roads out there as well, sideroad 17 is a blast, there is a section of 19 that's paved and fun, mount pleasant has some super tight twisty downhill section you could easily lose it on..

Problem for me now is keeping track of which roads are paved and which aren't. There are a lot of tight twisty dirt roads out there.

Im just driving around in my newer focus. It doesn't have the acceleration but ill keep up with anyone in the turns, save for a bike that is, even though I seemed to pass a few yesterday. Pop it in sport and let it fly, car drives like its on rails. I wish I had a wrx or the likes for the dirt roads though. I certainly would not want to take a real expensive lowered raced out car out on these roads.. I already verge on losing my license speed teritory in a focus, I don't need anyhing else LOL

Sorry for the harsh words before, I was in a bad mood and I have a bad habit of letting moods get the better of me.. nothing a nice long drive can't cure. The car is mad at me though

Cheers guys, thanks for the other map links too. Anyone have any tips for figuring out which are dirt roads and which aren't? I've come to the conclusion that most concessions and sideroads are, but not all are..

I've done half of that route, is freaking fun.
yeah we stopped a few times cause like it or not its fatiguing and STi's drink gas like alcoholics... but i dont know if id do the full route on bike, we were driving for about 8 hours that day!

@GTM: pics arent clear, why doesnt your car like you?

because I had just washed it a day earlier and now its covered in a cake of backroad dust and enough bugs to ensure I come back as a slug in the next life! Come to think of it, I could not imagine being on a bike.. you'd need multiple visor peels, nevermind riding open face :O

I want to hit snake road up through terra cotta this evening, question is should I start up at king road and make my way down to the 403, or start from the 403? Im not sure where the "top" is exactly

Wait...do people actually go to the forks for the hairpin? The claustrophobic, go-figure-theres-an-oncoming-car, uphill sucks/downhill is worse hairpin?

are you taking the kick-*** torque monster focus ( in sport mode ) ?

you forgot to mention "sanded-by-the-locals" to your description

I took it :mamoru:

had a blast, lots of fun. Didnt hit snake road, should have as I was near it but I didnt think I was close enough and figured I should be getting home.. got as far as evans. doh. Sideroad 2 and 4 between appleby and walkers line are intense.. I hit one road that is so steep and narrow that two cars probably can't pass each other. When I went "up" a jetta had just got done coming down, first time up the hill and it was a bit of a sobering moment..

from the sounds of your excitement at driving these roads in a focus ( in sport mode ) i suggest you stay away from these roads on a bike,.
as you might actually die from enjoyment

oh yeah... and stay away from sex, and girls that swallow, that will definately kill you

haha

hate on the focus all you want, but its a blast to drive around, handles like a champ (pilotsport3 18s and sport tuned suspension). I couldn't get manual trans in the trim I wanted, but the sport mode select shift works very nicely, I can keep the revs up and power out of the turns well enough.. its no torque monster and im not going to get squirrley hitting the gas hard but it isnt completely ball-less. Sure a bike would be a lot more fun, but im mostly just scouting out the roads for now and half the trip ends up being at night where id rather not be riding a bike for the first time.. some of those turns are uphill over a crest into a downhill decreasing radius completely blind turn and I actually got the car sideways on one because it caught me completely off guard...

Maybe I'll share the same sentiment as you guys once Ive driven these roads a million times, but there are enough sideroads and stuff out there and enough of them that the amount of routes you can plan are almost endless and to actually learn them to the point you can really push it will take quite a lot of time.. so I am pretty darn content. I guess if you spend your days running a loop over the same roads it would get old but not to me.. I used to do a country side drive doob cruise and that never got old until I was popped by the poleez.. and that road is 1/10th of these

118 is still my favourite road, but I don't want to drive an hour and a half north just to get to it.

Good for you OP enjoying your car! When I was younger I would go out of my way just to blast around on side roads and I still remember how much fun that was! Mind you that was when gas was $0.50/litre! LoL

Doesn't bring me the same joy in the car now (Genesis Coupe) but still fun when I do get out there. Now that feeling comes back to me when I take those same roads with the bike!

Anyway we live where we live and got to make do with what we're given here.
