it can happen pretty easily. When I first took the safety course last year I locked the front wheel and hit down hard on my shoulder breaking it in four places. I was wearing a textile jacket with armor and it didn't help. I spent the winter in physiotherapy and retook the course in April. It was well worth it. I've had a great year riding and I'm probably a safer rider for the experience.
