Washing motorcycle properly

BrownBrady posted a video on it last year.
Also, I remember hearing about WD40 somewhere.

I've always washed every bike (street/dirt/race) with a garden hose WITH a spray nozzle and a bucket of soapy water. All my bikes start after and run fine.

I did did have to replace the wheel bearings in my dirt bike though, after 10 years they've done their job.

This.

Normal (low pressure) hose spray attachment is fine.
High-pressure washer must be quite cautious! Can damage gaskets, wash out grease fittings, damage chain etc.
The trick is not too much soap, lots of rinsing. Flush everything well with lots of running water.
Using dead bath towels to dry bike is ideal. Last bits of dirt will end up on the drying and polishing towels...
Be sensitive to the presence of any grit on your towels!
Shake them out constantly. Move to a clean area (or next towel) as required...

And this.

In addition. If you are ever doing any maintenance on your bike and disconnecting any wiring, its a good and practical idea to add some dielectric grease into the connector before you reconnect. I just installed the new Kit race harness on my ZX-10R and every connector got a dab of dielectric grease.

Where would you apply the WD40? I would assume you don't mean the fairings?

All over but try to avoid brakes. Any time water touches my bike for any reason, WD-40 is soon to follow. Paint has not been an issue. YMMV.

Soap and a good sponge then I use an old dog dryer from my shop to blow the water off, (similar effect to the high speed dryers at the car wash blows the water doesn't dry it out) then a good shammy to wipe off and little droplets left. But then again cruisers have a lot of chrome..lol

Also, in between washes I use off brand lemon furniture polish. Got that tip from this forum. Works great. Gonna blind everyone with all my cruiser-chrome :p

ymmv?

Why do people think it's gonna destroy their bike if they use a hose? The only problem I've got is clutch/throttle cables losing lube or short in electrical connectors. But that's after at least a 1000 washes

You Make Me Vomit

Lol'd out loud.
Wife is giving me strange looks.
She thinks you have the hots for me. I told her that we're cool, no homo.

S100 motorcycle cleaner works well but pricy if you are washing after each ride.

Leaves bike squeaky clean and spotless without drying.

Great product

For those times when its too damn cold to be washing a bike s100 really shines (unintentional pun lol) Great stuff with a long shelf life, just make sure that the engine is cold.
