Washer And Dryers... Any still reliable and able to last a decade?

So what if someone has a preference for top loads instead of front loads or vice versa... when that spin cycles gets going...oooo baby!
I'll second the call for Kenmore. We've had two sets of W/D in the 33 years we've been back in Ontario. The first lasted over 25 years and could have been repaired fairly cheaply, but we wanted to switch to a front-load HE machine as we're on a septic system and figured the reduction in water would be a good thing. We heard that the old ones like ours were made in Germany, and the newer ones made in Brazil weren't as good. Maybe that was marketing hype. The only issue we had was a sensor kept getting gummed up and stopped the washer. We have very hard water from the well and once we put in the water softener we never had another occurrence of that issue, so that's something to watch out for. L

No comments on brands, but when you go to the big stores like Lowes, ask if they have any scratch and dent models, you usually save a couple hundred bucks because someone scratched it with a forklift or something like that.

Only thing I'd say is stay away from LG -- My parents have a LG washer and a LG dryer, and when one of the gaskets went on the washer apparently you can't order replacement parts and need to get a technician (since only they are authorized to buy them). Sucks when it is something simple to fix, but there is no way to do it yourself and have it not cost a fortune.
There are stores around that specialises in appliance parts. I highly doubt that

From what I understand, there are a few very high end manufacturers that service their own products. Miele comes to mind but, there are others.
Lg isn't one but, I have heard of parts back ordered and long wait for repairs.
Even when backed with extended warranty, if you can't fix it because the part hasn't come it, they don't supply you with something until it's fixed.

x2. Oshawa Appliance Parts (for one example) can get just about any part you could imagine or need, and you don't need to be a dealer or service technician to buy stuff there. I've done various repairs over the years to both washers and driers (as well as dishwashers) and they've had (or been able to get on short notice) any part I've ever needed so long as you have a make and model number.
They even helped me out with some water valve actuators when I was repairing a vending machine one time - they couldn't source the exact parts since they were discontinued, but they were able to just walk into the back and carry out the almost exact equivalent which did the job perfectly.

True 'nuff. I've got 2 different brands of driers and they are almost identical under the "hood".
Od school dryer that came with the house just started squealing like a mofo....reading this thread I should start sourcing parts and get on it...they work great but can hear it through the entire house.

That is typically the belt. Just need to find the proper spec replacement. Not too hard to difficult to replace.

My old drier was squealing. It was the drum rubbing against the worn out "spacers" or support. Wasn't an easy fix, so got another used one. I could have fabricated some rollers maybe, but a used one came up for a good price. Old one is a parts machine now.
Just lift the top off and check it out. Probably 2 screws at the top of the door opening.

My Maytag 2000 series front-load washer is only 4 years old and the shaft bearings are already shot. Need to determine if it's a DIY or just junk it.
