I have a 12 year old Kenmore set made by whirlpool no issues so far it was the top of the line at the time.

There are stores around that specialises in appliance parts. I highly doubt thatOnly thing I'd say is stay away from LG -- My parents have a LG washer and a LG dryer, and when one of the gaskets went on the washer apparently you can't order replacement parts and need to get a technician (since only they are authorized to buy them). Sucks when it is something simple to fix, but there is no way to do it yourself and have it not cost a fortune.

When my washer stopped working it was $6 in parts (or $2 with $8 shipping if I ordered online) and 5 minutes of labour. It took longer to look up and research what went wrong and how to fix it than to actually fix it. If the replacement parts last as long as the originals this washer will be eligible for a pension the next time those parts fail
Od school dryer that came with the house just started squealing like a mofo....reading this thread I should start sourcing parts and get on it...they work great but can hear it through the entire house.
