Warning About The Hype Of Changing To All-State Insurance

**They WON'T insure your bike without insuring a home, and bringing your car is not enough**

A friend of mine called for a quote on his bike which is not even a SS, it's a naked sport-tourer like the SV-650. He was told by the agent that he would not insure him without him insuring a condo or a house with them because naked sport-tourers were "dangerous", WTF? My friend offered to bring his car and the agent adamantly said "No". He asked the reason why they insure SS without problems yet not sport-tourers and he was told sport-tourers are more dangerous. Hahaha yeah right. Holy hell talk about retardeness, how is insuring a house going to help in reducing the chances of crashing with a bike? Doesn't your clean record reflect that?

How many of you actually insured your super-sports alone with them without anything else? Or how many of you have ever insured a sport-tourer with them without home insurance?

+1. I tried to insure my RC51 (1000cc superbike) with them and initially they told me that I needed to bring my car along, which I was fine with. Once the process started though, the underwriter had told my agent that home insurance MUST be purchased, along with car insurance for them to take a supersport bike. Not to mention you have to be at least 30 with your full M (which I do have)

Now the agent I was dealing with wasn't Dan Jackson, who's been highly tooted on this board. There's a 30 day policy that Allstate agents cannot intersect with collegues, so I'll try next month to see if anything can be swung with Dan.

This is the agents trying to get more business. The commissions on bike on is pretty low compared to Home and car. But as far as i know the documents filed with FCSO allow them to do lone bike policies (As some people who have bike only can attest to). This means that if they offer the product they have to legally give you a quote. Breaking the terms of their own companies filling with FCSO is a serious breach of the law. You should have your friend ask the agent to outline were portion of their documentation with FSCO were is allows them to attach the sale of other products as conditional to motorcycle insurance. If they still refuse a chat with their complaints department or the insurance ombudsman may be in order.

First years insurance Statefarm told me no insurance without life. I accepted but due to not knowing better. Later on advice of another agent (friend of a friend) he told me to contact their complaints departments. I did and they said i could cancel without risking losing by bike policy. I said thats fine but i was a refund for the entire thing otherwise i would be contacting the ombudsman. One of the regional managers left a VM on my home phone at 6:00am stating the cheque was in in the mail.

So they know they are not supposed to go this..but they do..

Desjardins has no qualms about not bringin your house/condo with them, don't know why Allstate is, they are going to lose a lot of potential customers. I also have a sport tourer but now don't plan on calling them, called Desjardins instead, unfortunately they were not lower than the $757/year I pay right now, they wanted $839 which is still not bad.

So Two50Noob do you think that if I complain about them or call their managers higher up would they have to give me a quote? I don't have a house so what the hell do they want me to do?

Not going to cost you anything to find out. I know they must do stand alone bike Policy's as people here have them and an agent I met told me they do (but he did say there is a discount with other products). So either find an agent that is more MC friendly (and honest). Or like i said ask the agent who is refusing you to show you the part of the eligibility fillings with FSCO that requires the purchase of additional products. If they are smart they will know they are caught and will give you the quote. If they refuse go to their complaints department and take it to their ombudsman if needed.

But i'm going to ask Viffer to comment on this thread as he actually knows what he's talking about

I think since someone's name ha seen posted on gtam how many times maybe people should contact him since the gs are obviously work G out using him as an agent. A simple search showed more than person saying their agent said no without a house etc and yet others here have switched with no house coverage. Look around peggy. The answers are here :D

i did talk to Dan about this
and underwriting wants to see a car along with bikes now =(
but there is ways around it if ur smart
i wont post here how but its easy

What the want to see and what the filed as the eligibility are two different things tho

If its not illegal post it.

its a gray line
insure a car and take it off after 30 days
or just do fire and theft
this trick always worked on SF
but with Allstate car rate are that good that you may as well just keep the car with them
most of the riders have cars here so i dont see this as a problem

if you want to get out of ur other car policy with out a fee
just tell them you sold the car
and there is no fee to cancel

There should be an iq test before being allowed in this section.

Peggy instead of posting he said she said why didn't you call the agent your self and find out the information first hand?

Had insurance with allstate for a couple years now, 2 bikes, 2 cars and they will insure the bike itself. They are however able to give you a significant discount if you insure a car, home, condo or get renters/contents insurance <-- don't know the exact wording on this but it works out for me to be 15$ a month to save over $1500...

This is called a multi-line discount peggy, it isn't that hard to understand...

I just don't think she understands that concept....

Tied selling is illegal and anyone who is pulling this scam should be reported to fsco. They can charge a higher rate but can not force you to take more than one product.

Well I guess your Allstate agent, your buddy, is a liar, my friend called him in front of me on loud speaker and I heard everything. My friend got the agent's contact info FROM YOU which you posted in another thread in this forum.

My dear friend why do you think I started this thread? Allstate does NOT insure your bike if you don't own a house. My friend tried to bring his 2 cars with them and they said "NO", that he needs to insure his home with them. How is your trick going to help me? He doesn't have a home or a condo so......

Thanks for this info I'm going to look into it and pass the info to my friend, I will advice him to file a complaint against this agent to FSCO.

Dear Peggy,

You're Incorrect. I know sinz switched to allstate with just a car and his bike. He's a friend of mine and I know he's not lying. So perhaps you need to try a different agent or make your complaint to the fsco and see where it gets you. Not everyone is a homeowner and to think allstate only insures home owners is ridiculous. Please don't forget puff puff pass......
