Warm weather riding pants suggestions?

Hey I wear convertibles too and I like opening the knee zippers when it's hot but came in handy when the the bike tipped over and the pants were caught under the KLR

Just unzipped the one leg and saved me wiggling out of my riding pants on the gravel.

( pant leg caught on the side stand - AFTER I had the sidestand down but no weight on it - over I went - bloody KLR is too tall )

seriously tho convertibles are good with armor underneath.

bmw summer 2 pants..legs zip off into shorts although u look like a twat with shorts and boots, but after wearing hiviz i stopped caring about how I looked.

Carry sandals in your tail bag..

Has anyone tried the Velocity Storm touring pants? The description on the Velocity web site looks good and the product appears to be comparable to other textile pants I have looked at.

Another suggestion would be to look at Vanson's riding pants, they use 1000 denier nylon's in both mesh and regular material. They also have jeans that use two layers of denim with a layer of 1000 denier mesh sandwiched in between. These are probably cooler than kevlar lined jeans with protection that may not be much different.

I have an older version of these, plus the jacket http://www.motoport.com/index.php?option=com_redshop&view=product&pid=31&cid=29&Itemid=15 .

For a torture test, I went riding with my black pants/jacket on that nice 41 degree day (48 with humidity). I was perfectly comfortable riding around at 50-60 km/h. I only began to warm up a little sitting at lights, but then what little sweat had formed was quickly dried out when I was moving again, feeling like a blast of A/C.

Seems like they have updated the design as well. Mine are a bit of a pain to get my foot through the knee without folding up the knee armor. Mine go on like regular pants, with zippers up the sides from the foot, to below the knee on both sides.

They are a bit on the pricey side though.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I was riding in my leather jacket and jeans last night on the 401...and holly $!@# it got hot in stop and go traffic! That's why I can't see myself putting on a full leather suit.

I'm leaning towards buying the specific armour for knees/shins + armoured shorts as these seem to be preferred due to their lack of movement should something happen.

Ideally it should be something that's easily put on/off as the more effort it takes to add gear...the less I see myself using it but that's just me.

oh, I find that with jeans, its actually HOTTER than in my riding pants. Jeans tend to cling to the skin and transfer the heat from the sun a lot more. I also find the riding pants keep the engine heat away from my legs too.
THats why I think people in Jeans think riding pants or leathers are worse when in fact it may not be.

Imagine how much heat from a 1000+ cc engine is generated compared to a wee 250cc
