Waiting for part because of friggen CUPW

. . .changing minds one at a time, lol. . .

I asked you to show me where I said it wasn't a lockout. You can't, so resort to calling my post a "logical fallacy". As usual, with all your usual pseudo psychology mumbo-jumbo smoke-and-mirror arguments, you give yourself credit where none is due. Again, I never even alluded to it NOT being a lockout, only to one's use of a left-wing media source like the CBC to give anything BUT a pro union slant on the matter. You fail........again, and again.......

And CP's mistake was not locking the whiny beotches out the minute the first ones walked off the job in Winnipeg.

so how is attacking a person's source as illegitimate without actually addressing their point NOT a logical fallacy?

lol, fail.

edit: enjoying the hilarious irony of your post, btw. . .well done

THere's a guy in Croatia waiting for the stock mirrors I sold him for his v-star. As soon as he forwarded me the payment, Lock out ensued. Sux for him - poor guy will be waiting a while for them to get there. . .

I am waitng for my vacation pay cheque. That is money I desperatly need. @#$% is gonna hit the fan if I don't get it soon. I called Canada Post many months ago when I was getting mail late from Toronto. Apparently everyrthing that gets mailed to Peterborough from Toronto has to get sent to Ottawa, re-sorted and sent back to Peterborough. I guess the truck can't make a left turn off the 401 to drop off mail. So now that the lockout is on, anything that took generally 2 weeks to get here, is going to take however long the strike lasts. Which will be very, very bad for me. Canada Post needs to get a lot of stuff fixed. Including their Logistics!

well, the back to work order passed yesterday night, so expect your stuff later this week.

Get rid of unions, fire all who went on a strike, employ new people = problem solved.

I love your quick, easy and simple solutions to complex problems.. We should then follow up on that by privatizing all government services, building super-prisons and getting rid of employee protection laws.. After we do that, we'll all live happily every after

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/06/26/canada-post.html

The Conservative bill ordering 48,000 postal employees back to workcleared the House of Commons on Saturday night after a 58-hour NDP filibuster and several failed opposition efforts to win changes.

"Canadians can expect their mail, I wouldn't say tomorrow morning, but certainly early next week," the CBC's Julie Van Dusen said.

I would take this with a grain of salt though.

So management just out of the blue decided to close shop? That's a little simplistic.

They had to close the doors because they were losing money due low volume due to the rotating strikes.

The union is completely clueless. There's this thing out now, perhaps they haven't heard of it, its thing called the internet? Apparently you can send messages over this thing almost instantaneously and for free.

Awesome, then send your r/r over the internet.

Awesome, then send your r/r over the internet.

I heard you can send motorcycle parts over the internet these days  (*)

(*) That will become true soon enough with the advent of 3-D printing, but not for at least a decade or so

It's hard for a union to get any sympathy when they go on strike during economic hardships. You can't expect people to side with you when you're complaining about a job with tremendous security, great benefits and absolutely decent pay with an average starting wage of $23/hour.

Back-to-work legislation = good.

you do know that contracts are signed without the benefit of timing the end of the contract to coincide with a period of economic prosperity, right?

and all of those things that you mention--job security, benefits, wages--just what do you think they are negotiating? i suspect they are only seeking status quo (or less) not +++. . .

as a middle class worker, i don't begrudge the efforts of other workers to maintain their lot in life (notice i didn't say 'improve'. . .). . .

They're so far ahead of status quo it's not even funny.

I don't "blame" them for fighting for more, everybody wants more... but I don't support them either and I fully support legislating them back to work.

Precisely because we have such things as employee protection laws, there is no need for unions anymore. Unions, or those on top at least are a bunch of gangsters, modern day mafioso's.

Even with the employee protection laws, there is still a big difference in power between your typical employer and your typical employee... I mentioned this before but I'll say it again...

1) Typical company can survive without that one employee that's asking for "too much" (mostly asking for his salary to match the rising costs of living)
2) Typical employee can't survive without having a job
3) Typical company can't survive without its entire workforce

With these facts in mind, we can have 2 possible scenarios...

NO UNION - Company can live without the employee but the employee can't live without a job.. One side has more to lose than the other, so we have an unfair negotiation

WITH UNION - Company can't live without the entire workforce, the entire workforce can't live without the company. Both sides have just as much to lose so they're more likely to negotiate fairly

I've seen all sorts of abuses on both ends, but typically, the agreements between companies and its unions are a lot more fair than between companies and regular employees (and don't get me started on hiring people as "consultants" to circumvent those employee protection laws). When a worker gets a couple of extra sick days, we have torches and pitchforks raised against the unions.. When a company offers performance bonuses, workers work their ***** off to get'em and just as they're about to reach the goals the company raises the bar, thus making those bonuses impossible, it's business as usual (and I've worked for such a company).

And you wouldn't have shifts averaging 8-10 hours a day (used to be 8, but not any more), paid lunch and paid vacation if it wasn't for the unions. Everything that they fought for is getting slowly eroded and you're shouting for them to be eliminated. Real smart move

+1

Work in a unionized work place before, dont now.

I used to hate the bitching and complaining from my lazy co workers. The fact that hard work got you nowhere.

Now im have to hold something over my bosses head in order to get what I deserve.

You say unions work for the workers? They work for the small percentage of workers while screwing those who are non unionized. I have myself personally lost so much work because of unions, nearly gone out of business (without going into detail) and I know hundreds of workers and privately owned small companies that were destroyed or nearly destroyed by greedy union crooks. How is that for workers rights?

Unions should be demolished, there was a need for them a 100 years ago, but now they are doing more damage than good.

How do unions screw over non unionized workers?
In my trade its kind of the opposite.

@The Road Warrior: Unspecified examples with a dose of propaganda.. You're making a great argument buddy

translation: i have to compete against union shops, and cannot. that hurts my self interests, which is more important than the interests of any union worker. therefore, unions suck and must be abolished, so i can get more money for myself.

message received.
