I’m not sure if this is the right section but feel free to move.

I have not posted here for some time but I’m looking for some advice (Sure, the guy only posts when he wants something). I was talking to Dave Crussell from Mojo Yamaha and he mentioned that the VRRA are hosting a class for Formula TT/Philip Island bikes at Mosport this year.

I happen have a Harris XR69 with a GS1100 motor and rarely get a chance to ride it in earnest so if I can swing it, I’ll be there there.

I’m only bringing the enclosed trailer and was wondering if there were a B&B or Guest House in the area that you could recommend. Otherwise, it will be the Best Western in Bowmanville ☹

Thanks in advance

I camped in a tent at VRRA a couple years ago. Good times. An enclosed trailer would be a step up.

As for your question, sorry, I don't have a good answer.

Bowmanville?
Oshawa and Lindsay are a lot closer. I used to stay at the Howard johnson's on Lindsay St. Nothing special, 15 minutes from the track.

I wanna see this XR69. If VRRA was better at advertising, we'd have heard of this before... and I would have put together a bike or two... but they aren't... so I didn't
Do you plan on RACING said XR69?

Yes. I think I can probably also run it in Open and maybe Period 3 Heavy although the tires and forks are too big. I think P3 is limited to a 160 rear and 41mm forks.

I know Crussell is bringing all of his and there are a few more coming from the US. His frames are CMR which I always though were a little better than Harris as he was able to get the engine further forward and the seat is higher. I believe there are a few guys who race in Period 3 that also have Harris or CMR framed bikes. I think that Ben Gartner has also built a couple.

Definitely something interesting to see.

Personally I love camping there, however the wife is coming :(

Saturday Nights were always good with the live entertainment and a few drinks

I'll see if a kid wants to come and maybe I'll make it out again. Last time I had 27,000 steps on Saturday and the 6 yo kid was with me for every one. Complained they weren't tired at night :/

Yeah... P3 is 41mm forks... might be able to slide that through... slap a 150 radial on....

The CMR frames are arguably the best there ever was. I was a long time friend of Denis. I met him at Westwood when he worked for Trev Deely. I saw all those bikes being built. I have a couple CMR bikes.
The last edition of those bikes, the ones that went to Philips Island, are NO WHERE NEAR VRRA rules compliant. They're 1320cc (IIRC)(if they're the Yamaha ones, the motors are FJ1100 which came out in '84... so P4), 43mm forks (P4), 165 rear tires P4)
... so there's hope....
Dave Crussel races a TZ750 (P3), but all the others were big four strokes
OH, and don't tell VRRA Formula TT was a 750 class...typical of the VRRA, who's motto is "To recreate a era of motorcycle racing that never happened". The VRRA should have created a class for these bikes in 2018. The only place to race them is Philip Island... AHMRA is dying... wouldn't be nice to race "Formula" or "Sportsman" at Mosport, Laguna and Philip Island... wouldn't be hard to convince somewhere like Silverstone to join in the fun
VRRA at Mosport will probably be the biggest "vintage fest" in the world this year... AGAIN... and they're gonna piss it away... AGAIN
Sorry, long time disgruntled VRRA member, and a BIG fan of "Sportsman" classes. VRRA hates "Sportsman" and doesn't understand "Formula"

... there's a whole bunch of two stoke GP bikes out there with no place to race either... but if ya' got a clapped out SV or EX; VRRA will welcome you with open arms... bend over backwards for you actually

That's disappointing. My favorite bikes to watch when I went were the Rudge-whitworths. Sounded awesome and hardtails didn't handle well but were fun to watch. 2-stroke GP bikes would be fun to watch too.

Scott mcvicker would be the one you would want to talk to if you are looking for info on the philip island invitational.

From what I can tell as an outsider VRRA's singular purpose is to put bums on the seats and bikes on the track.
There is stuff being raced that was NEVER raced 'back in the day'.
VRRA is not AHMRA, the mandate seems totally different. Not wrong, just different.

If you want to see some really nice bikes it is worth it to go to Mosport for the vintage weekend. I think this year the cost is $30 for the day. There are some really tricked out custom well cared for bikes and nice people willing to talk to you about their machines. You can also volunteer with the organization as well. If you have a adv or similar you can literally go anywhere inside the facility (dirt roads to isolated corners) which is fun in itself at such an iconic track. Make sure to go through the old access tunnels which lead under the track from the old gate to the infield. Most importantly stop by Dave Laporte's #221 ("the door") pit and ask him a million questions! He loves to talk!

We walked everywhere last time. I won't be doing the walk along the back straight again (and I am pretty sure they would strongly discourage someone riding that path). I found watching somewhere in corners 2-3 to be the most interesting. 8-10 seemed promising but it wasn't easy to get a good sight line to the section. 5 looked fun (and terrifying) to ride but wasn't very interesting to watch as most riders seemed to be trying to survive there and not trying to attack.

OSHAWA and LINDSAY are a lot closer? Are you a complete massive idiot, or were maps, maths, and common sense optional at your "children of siblings school"?

Holy sweet, f u ck, I used to have a house on Lake Scugog. I was exactly 20.1 km from door to door (gate three) at CTMP. Now I live walking distance from the nice hotels in Bowmanville (Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn. The Best Western on Liberty is a slum for criminals), and I am exactly 20.1 km door to door.

Lindsay is 45 km to Mosport. Oshawa is 40 km.

@Delboy (great name, btb - think you can call me Arthur Daley just for today), the Best Western is where the local government pays to house the homeless, and other ne'er-do-wells travelling for work such as plumbers and electricians stay there. Go to the Holiday Inn or Comfort Inn just a short block west of Bowmanville Ave/(formerly Waverly)/County Road 57. In between 57 and Martin and Baseline Road is a Tim's and a Wendy's. Mr Sub and Mary Brown are across the street, and Dairy Queen is at the corner of the street you shall be on.

Funny thing? My old house was basically at the end of 57 one way (it wasn't, but it was) and I now live at the other end of 57. And, little known fact, CTMP's official address is Bowmanville.

Exactly correct. FYI, I shall be there again for the twentieth or so year in a row.

Show up with one's bike. Show it to them. They shall find a class in which one may race. PLUS ... they have many other events/races during the weekend into which one's bike shall be inserted just to give the racer laps or to show off the bike.

The VRRA is really quite accommodating and rather nice.

If anyone is offended by me calling them children of siblings, I may be found at corner three every day, every year.

We camp just below turn #3 (Quebec Corner) and set out pop ups just at the top of the hill. Great sight lines.

Holy sweet, f u ck,
JEEEzzz
Sorry I offended you
I read Bowmanville, but thought Belleville, which is where you camp when racing at Shannonville, which is why I couldn't figure why he wanted to stay there.
Sorry I mix up Bowmanville/Belleville and Brantford/Bradford all the time.
I'd consider that a simple mistake... you seem to react differently

What does
"children of siblings school"
mean?
y'know... cuz I'm a complete idiot

Completely agree about CMR. I've ridden the CMR framed bike that Josh Hayes rode at PI and its very different from the Harris but in a very good way. The motor is further forward so it puts a little more weight on the front wheel and handles much better. Denis also redid the entire seating position so its taller than the Harris. Makes it much easier to reach the bars and its just way more comfortable. It just feels better and easier to ride.

I think Dave used to bring 6 bikes to PI. One was his TZ750 that he rode but the others were FJ1250's which did creep into Formula TT at the end in before WSBK killed it. Not sure how many he has left now but I know he went to Calabogie a few weeks ago with the TZ750 and the FJ1250

Some interesting information here about Pop's bikes. - Suzuki XR69 - Classic Motorbikes

Thanks All. Didn't fancy the Homeless Shelter so we managed to put a deposit on a small apartment at Pontypool road and the 115. If it was on my own I'd have the tent packed already :)
