Right off the bat I'm gonna say if you're under 20 or over 40 there is nothing of value for you here. :P

Bored, can't ride today. Somehow I got thinking of the best cinematic intros for video games ... thought I'd share. These are either going to look like complete crap to you, or stir strong memories. Speak up if you've got any to add!

I didn't watch any of the links... but my favourite game was Super Mario 3 for the SN. Spent countless hours playing that game until I turned 16 and found cars and pussy.

Woah, that's pretty serious heh. I was excited about UO2, right up until the point where it got cancelled. I was mad about that for a long time, but from what I learned about it later the project basically tore itself apart from the inside.

Funny, I was talking about Blaster Master today with my brother.

Final Fantasy 1

Blaster Master was a great game, it was also friggin hard. Never actually beat it. :P Though about putting up the intro for FFVI, but it's kinda longish... http://youtu.be/RDMWp1oLoA0

Funny how the graphics Half-Life haven't really held up well over time. I remember being blown away that people had mouths that moved "realistically" when they talked, but now it looks kinda ... bad, lol. The "oh ****" moment when you first walked into a barnacle and then looked up was fantastic. I remember the OpFor intro being dramatic, but I don't think that's a convincing desert canyon anymore. :P Still, all the time into HL1 ... TFC, Firearms, Natural Selection, Opera, Specialists ... it's nuts how many mods there were.

Used to play it on my buddies system with 4mb built in graphics accelerator. It barely smoothed out the textures, but it was epic to us then.

I thought this would be about arcade games. Tempest, defender, etc

Exactly, how can you be nostalgic about something less than 20 years old?

I see my use of the word "nostalgia" is causing problems... the really old stuff is interesting but I'm talking more about video games that told stories. Maybe "Master Blaster" is stretching but that tiny intro got you pumped to play it every time. :P

Full Throttle!! **** YA! Lucas Arts used to make absolutely amazing games. Deep story line, great comedy sections, great game play. The Tie-fighter, X-wing, Full Throttle, Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, Star Wars - Dark Forces etc etc

Mechwarrior 3....yea i was hooked on that game. I remember how i thought those graphics were amazing....whats amazing is how much the graphics have advanced.

Syndicate, i grew up with that game as well as all the other ones mentioned above.

Half-Life, lets not even go there. I was just glad that i was there for the breakthrough that HL was in terms of first shooter game play, storyline development and graphics. It has forever seared Valve as a great game maker for me. The further development of the Half Life story through HL2 and HL series is amazing. I vividly remember playing the downloaded Demo and finishing it by climbing stairs up an air shaft and thinking to myself that gaming will never be the same after that.

Do i even need to mentioned Warcraft and Dune? the very first Real Time Strategy? Warcraft II was the benchmark against which many games were measured, Blizzard followed this up with Starcraft, a game that is still played to this day. Red Alert series ran along in parallel. Diablo was also extremely popular and one of the first massively successful multiplayer games. Wing Commander Series also falls in there somewhere

Basically these games mentioned above were the first in their genres and defined what the gaming would look like and develop in the next decade.

agh so many games! Original Fallout! how could i miss it....Jagged Alliance, similar in game play. Closer to the 2000s we have the Tom Clancy Rainbow 6 series....

it really makes me nostalgic thinking of those games. couple months ago i stumbled across DOSbox and Syndicate. I swear to god i teared up a little bit as i started to play the game again...

All the Wolfenstien, Doom, Half Life, and Unreal Tournament series. Some Half Life, but not much.

Favourite was UT2K4.

Older games on cartridge for Gemini/Colecovision...too many to list, but loved Pitfall.

But you can't beat a pinball machine. I have an original Mustang 2 player that made for an awesome piggy bank as a kid :).
