Oh boy! Here we go.

You obviously don't know how to ride even your grandmothers moped, if these close calls happen to you everyday then you don't know how to ride ****.

Now get your kissing cousin to make another sarcastic remark. As for my bike not stopping your full of BS it stopped faster then any crap sport bike.

Dial it up, dial it down, whatever you need. Also thanks for the value added tip on sport bikes.

O.P. glad you are alive and able to share your story. As I'm sure you all are aware - increasingly, we as riders must take the situation into our own hands and take evasive maneuvers to save our lives! I've lost count of just how many times I've had to skid, swerve or "crack it" to avoid becoming road pizza. I can't seem to understand why this forum has become such a pissing match of opinions - after all, aren't we all brothers and sisters of the same fellowship, regardless of what bikes we choose to ride? Ride safe everyone!

I agree but seems any one mentions their brand of bike they ride, it always ends with sarcastic remarks, I don't feel good about some of my posts but I
don't take immature posters lightly either, ride and enjoy what bike you choose.

I don't know whether you're serious or joking, whether you like to banter or get your shorts into a twist. You go onto motorcycle forum claiming the Sportster an excellent bike for curvy mountain roads. Measured against what? Why bait people? If you're so pleased that you don't grind into every guardrail at every corner I'll be happy to take your comments in that context. Enjoy.

The loud pipes saves lives theory does not require extra revving in a panic situation. The theory is that you make so much noise that all the car drivers around you will hear you coming and provide you a safe ride. In theory the driver would not have pulled out as he would have heard you.

PS. You are on possibly the most benign motorcycle forum on the internet. Relax and try and enjoy it... :)

That explaination would of got me killed, if I had waisted "one" second to rev or more stupid to blow the" horn" I would of T boned, my post said was a panic stop not
a sunday school scenic tourist stop... there was only a split second left before impact... sorry if miss understood but seemed sarcastic all the same.

I rode a sportster once..I didn't enjoy it.

I just got back from a long ride enjoyed the bike very much, not a speed demon but I only bought to cruise around town it's an excellent bike " you can quote me"

PS I only said was best bike I owned so far, not like I have spare money to try every bike out there, re loud pipes they annoy me if
too loud, but a moderate rumble noise I enjoy hearing. I relize you don't rev in a panic stop, fact is most panic stops become somewhat
instinct that's why for me always practice with both brakes, and during a panic stop is fairly easy to make a bike straight...I sometime's
think of hanging it in, but each new panic stop is a learning experience the hard way..

To add to this thread -- Out at Brampton Powersports, leave the dealership and sitting a red (2 lane each way) and after sitting about 30-45 seconds a car blows the red right next to me at around 100km/h...guess he had important **** to get to. (and why is a cop never around when you actually need them)

That sounds like an accident to happen with that driver, also again re another topic posted by another member, I had another sport bike pass in my lane that seems
bit aggressive..you hear all the time of cagers edging in your lane while other bikers do the same.. enjoy all the same

This is the only post in this thread that makes any sense

You sir, get a solid hand shake.
He's serious, more so then the "Joker".

Elwood: You've clearly never driven in the city of Toronto or surrounding area. This does indeed happen on a daily basis. Finger salute could get you killed one day. Keep Calm & Drive On.

I don't doubt it and appreciate your post but my point is if near death incidents are happening daily maybe we should examine why, I ride in Vancouver a fairly busy city and near misses happen maybe once a month speaking for myself only, just heard on news a bike was down on one of the streets hope the rider is ok, likely will be in news if not. You are right about flipping the bird but kind of instinct growing up.

thanks

re the Sportster being ok on mountain roads, well I live next to the ski hills, I have no problem going up and down the mountains I find the Sportster
easy to ride, sure can't compare to other bikes never owned many bikes..it is not super fast around curves but that's because still learning...

I figure if I'm enjoying and having fun on most road conditions including winding steep hills then the Sportster must be OK.

We can do without the personal sniping and insults people.

In the Toronto area, especially in suburbs like Brampton where I live, the near miss is an almost daily occurrence. It's the experienced riders who come home, rather than being scraped up from under some passenger vehicle. In Brampton it's no longer people who don't see you, who are the main problem, it's the ones who take advantage of any 2 car length gap in traffic to dart out from side streets or parking lots, forcing through traffic to panic brake and avoid hitting them. These actions are very much conscious decisions, rather than the usual 'Sorry, didn't see you' type of incident.

Then you have the kids, who think it's funny to put the life of someone else in danger. These are the less common issues and I've commented on one such, recently, in another thread. A turd in a slammed, smoked windowed, and fart pipe equipped car thought it would be fun to pace me off the light, when there was a transport truck parked a short distance up in the curb lane. A little judicious use of the loud handle took care of that situation, but not the mindset that created it.

It's also becoming more and more common in the downtown core of Toronto, largely due to the idiocy of this city's 'planners' in closing or limiting access on multiple major throughways, simultaneously. Drivers' tempers are on a hair trigger and stupid/dangerous decisions are also a daily issue.

I had a guy turn out in front of my down near the Forks....We were both stopped for a good 2 mins in opposite directions at a light...the light turned green we started moving forward and he went left right in front of me didn't even signal. Now thats inattentiveness. Bonus his female passenger was freaking out on him so hopefully he got an earful from her for being an idiot.

Yes, every once in a while you'll see a female with her head not buried in a device. I wouldn't call it a trend but it's somewhat encouraging none the less.
What I'm noticing is cars "parked" in odd places. Like, "Hmmm? why is that car stopped there?" Device usage in progress.
I'm idling at the red light. Within moments pick up spidy sense. Why is the car to my right not turning? He's nosed into the intersection, all is clear. Oh ya, eyes down between legs.
