As per any stock suspension it goes up and down. The stock gas charged rear shock loses damping and by 10k is pretty much just the spring.

If you want to be able to set it up even remotely correctly you need aftermarket. Just doing oil and springs in the front, and a zx-6r(or many other compatible stock ss shocks) in the back makes a world of difference.

Once you've ridden a decently setup bike you don't want to go back.
 
And I largely agree with you. However, garbage, is not a word to use in this particular case. For a casual rider, who wants to tour the country roads, the suspension will be likely adequate.

People do twisties on cruisers after all so if SV suspension is junk then what do we even call those? ;)

Best cornering technique for a cruiser? Very slow in, very slow out. My goldwing actually corners better than the 1100 shadow I used to have.. Lol
