Picking up a Seadoo. Is there such a thing as a UVIP for PWC? If not, how to tell if liens are against it.

No none available, need to ask a lot of questions, if they are original owner, how many owners it has had, can show any dealer paperwork of it being paid in full, etc. Depending on age of it, really need to feel out the situation to make a judgement if owner would have had the means to pay in full for it as judgy as that might be ($25,000 new ones these days). See if they took the time to register it over to them and show you the pleasure craft license in their name (very easy process) though the pleasure craft license has nothing to do with any money owing against vehicle. If pre 2010 I would assume you should be fine as could've had 5 different owners by now.

I registered the last 2 I had, claimed purchase price as requested and never got hit with a tax bill in the mail.

Damn, thanks for that...so it's the wild west so to speak. And for vehicles with the most liklehood as an impulse buy.

Boats were a screw-up from the get go. They are federally registered and until not all that long back nothing was on computers. Everything was in filing cabinets at the local federal office. If the boat had a bow number of "50E" the paperwork was in some office on Bay Street. 36E was possibly Peterborough. A "D" number was for Quebec.

Adding to the problem a lot of boaters didn't change the registration because the feds advised the province and a tax request was sent to the new owner. The boat could go through several hands before anyone tried straightening it out.

The last time I did a judgement search my lawyer did it for peanuts as a favour. It only covered one county. We have many.

Unless there is a shortcut it appears that one must become a private investigator. What marina was the craft originally sold to? Try to pick up the trail there but I don't think you can force the marina to spend time digging through paperwork for you to find the next stepping stone.

If you borrow the money to buy it does the bank have a way of checking?
