Upgrading Advice

IT's not just horsepower on paper. The FEEL of a V twin will crap all over the BORRING inline twin of the GS. DO IT!

+ 1. Totally different engine. Personally, I'd be all over the v-twin vs an inline twin.

I disagree somewhat with others in regards to trying different bikes - as long as money isn't a pressing issue, I say try as many different bikes as you want to. No one says you have to be faithful to any particular bike for any specific amount of time.

Any more of this crap and I might actually have to hang out with you. *mad* Seriously, I am starting to have an e-crush on you, in a platonic sort of way of course.

The SV has a similar peg/set position as the GS, but a much longer reach to the bars (or clip ons in this case). It was actually more aggressive than my zzr600, so keep that in mind if comfort is a consideration. The naked SVs are a bit different, but they're much rarer; they look 100% cooler without a fairing though.

FI, stiffer frame, better suspension and V-twin power delivery are well worth the $80 premium. They're at least 20 years apart, engineering wise, more if you consider the engine.

The end of season is approaching, and I'm considering selling my SV again (to the right buyer and for the right price, of course :p) I dunno what it feels like compared to a GS, but the SV is (to me) the best bike for practical riding. Enough power to smoke almost any car, great gas mileage, not boring to ride at legal(ish) speeds, and good ergonomics (mines a naked version, with an aftermarket handlebar that sits between the S and N versions)

PM me if you're interested. Like you, I want to sell (and maybe upgrade) but I have no qualms with keeping it :)

I currently ride a GS500F.

Another thing to question: have you pushed your GS500F to the limits? Or does it still have some juice you aren't using up?
If you just want a bit of a change: you could do some mods to the GS. More aggressive bars; different pegs; different suspension, etc. All of these things are relatively cheap and will give the GS500 a much different feel.

There might not be anything holding you back from upgrading, but is there anything pushing you towards upgrading? Upgrading just because you can isn't really a good reason. Is the GS lacking something that you're craving? Can the SV650 give you what you want, or is the GS still satisfying you?

I have pushed the gs to MY limits. I'm sure someone with more experience could rip it wayyyy harder than I do. But I thought about changing the suspension, pegs, etc. but then I thought it wouldn't be a good idea if I was just going to sell it in a couple years anyway. The GS is satisfying me but I'm one of those people that like change. Could just be a maturity thing who knows.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too just because I know that the v-twin would be a lot of fun to drive. I actually like the fairing look though :? and comfort isn't a huge issue for me. I agree with everyone on the test drive though for sure.
