Upcoming Election

sounds to me like the Liberals will win again based on the same reason they won last time being the "lesser of the 2 evils."

He's going to drive everyone out West for work. He's already made me go out West for work but Ontario will always be my home and I hope to return someday. I haven't sold my home so it's there for me to return when a good leader is elected and Ontario is vibrant again.

Since the smart meter has been installed my utility bills have skyrocketed more than double what they were previous years. He's also responsible for the HST and the more you make the more healthcare tax you pay. But than I've lived under NDP and they bankrupted Ontario and anyone that is still scarred by that will never vote NDP. I liked Mike Harris and the Conservatives but it seems to be they're lacking a credible leader otherwise it should be a cakewalk for the Conservatives to win. Don't think teachers will agree though.

But you're right out West you make overtime over 8 hours or 40 hours. When I was working in Ontario my overtime would kick in when I've worked over 44 hours in a week doesn't matter if I worked 12 hours in a day. And 14 year olds can ride motorbikes here.

Alberta is also gearing up for an election and the Conservatives 50 years in power is in jeopardy. But the alternative is not Liberal it's a splintered group of Conservatives that created a new party called the Wildrose Alliance. I think that's what Ontario needs is a new party. Just think of the Reform party and Stephen Harper back in 1988. And look who's the Prime Minister is now.

You guys get overtime? I work 70+ hours a week and i dont get overtime...

anyone who watches a debate expecting to see anything of substance is seriously fooling themselves.

the questions asked are immaterial--it's become an exercise in 'staying on message' by all involved. every question gets twisted around to whatever talking point they have rehearsed related to the topic. that's it.

all they are looking for is an opportunity to catch the other guy out, an 'aha' moment like when john turner got skewered by mulroney back in '84. but they were naive back then. . .not now. now, they are hardened pros who will be robotic enough not to get that flustered.

hudak earned his chops under harris, and he clearly is appealing to the same voting bloc/demographic that elected the 'common stench' revolution in the '90s. . .a vote for hudak is a vote for harris redux.

toronto already got a taste of the spending cuts that hudak would absolutely bring in. if torontonians are upset about downloading now, get ready for the apocalypse if hudak gets control. i have not heard a single pc candidate or hudak deny this.

The "declined" vote option is so whiney and wishy-washy! Take a stand and get involved.... you can change the world if you are involved. Declining your vote will not change anything IMHO. Nothing is perfect... you pick the best available alternative and work with it to shape it into something that is more to your liking. Also, if you are concerned about their lying, then hold them accountable! Get in their faces and tell them you are no longer willing to put up with this. If everyone does nothing then the system will stay as it is.

Get involved... why on earth would I want to stand behind any politician when they're all liars and crooked?
I'm not a politician, and would be insulted if anyone called me one - that's how distasteful they are to me.
Hold them accountable - by what, voting for a different party? Bah... that one will do as they please when they win a majority government too.
The jail option would be accountability in my opinion. See below.

I've long thought that at the end of a politicians term, there should be some kind of accounting for their actions.
If they cannot demonstrate that they have at least made realistic efforts to acheive their campaign promises, they should face mandatory jail time.

Agreed. And not just the party leader facing jail time, the entire cabinet for defrauding a province or country. Have to make it a constitutional amendment so it can't be wiped off the law books by the next party who doesn't like it.

It's absolutely how amazing how many people choose who they're going to vote for in specifically that manner....
They're not voting FOR a party, they're voting because they feel that party will screw them over the least as compared to the other parties...

And our "leaders" seem to be completely oblivious to this.... guess they've been feeding is their lies so long they're starting to believe them themselves...

uhm I also work 70+ hours a week except I get paid 1.5x for first 3 hours and double after that. If I work on my 2nd day off I get paid double for every hour worked. Same applies for holiday we get paid the full 8 hours + overtime hours for any hours we worked during holidays. Remembrance day is considered a paid statutory holiday here. Can't remember it being the same in Ontario.

Yeah it's sad when people believe in exercising their voting rights just to have their votes counted no matter if they believe in supporting that party or not.

welcome to salary. co worker got promoted to team manager and is now making less per hour than before the promotion, only cause she works way more hours from home.

You mean welcome to Unicef?

If you are salary and occasionally work overtime for the occasional crisis.. that's one thing.. if you are salary and regularly work 70 hours a week and are not compensated. Quit. Let your employer find some other idiot willing to give their time away for free. Otherwise, you're that idiot.

I'm not a charity, i do work and i deserve to get get paid for it.

I agree which is why I am not in one of those salaried positions.

You employer has to pay overtime salaried or not. Look up the law as a salaried employie if you are asked to work more than 44 hrs per wk you must be paid overtime, based on what you salary translates to in hourly rate.
