Plenty of freshly planted trees there, but yes...obviously it was baren.If you have travelled Canada, you will have seen landscapes like what you find in Iceland, with one difference - trees.
Before the Vikings found it, Iceland was about 1/2 forest covered, today it's mostly barren, tree stands are few and far between.
My point was, what is the size of canada vs iceland. In 8 hours of driving you can drive end to end in iceland and see every environment imaginable. Canada? Unlikely.
