Unusual Speed Trap on 401

One i've seen them do on Lawrence just west from Don Mills is them off a side street, with their tripod mounted speed guns, standing off behind a tree, watching the remote readout. They are extremely hard to see until you're about 50 feet away from them, well after they have seen you. If you're going the other direction they are impossible to see. It is such an absolutely horrible spot, they bag so many people there around rush hour.

I'm not sure if you are trying to be funny here or not.
So, i'm going to just go ahead and chuckle.

Until you find out...that's it's not only plausible, but true.
Toronto's traffic supercop, the guy that tops the Sunshine List every year, is writing $2.5-$2.75 MILLION in citations. Annually. One officer. And he likes bikes, because there is ALWAYS something he can quickly write up before moving on. Like a plate violation.

I've seen people get pulled over by a Chrysler 300, Ford Focus, seen someone quickly arrested by 2 cops getting out of a grey dodge caravan. Also i think it was a couple years ago, i saw 2 cops on sport bikes parked and speed-trapped traffic coming down a hill and they were hiding behind a mailbox near bayview & eglinton (sutherland to be exact)

Saw this exact cop, parked on the side of the road shooting laser radar into HIS SIDE VIEW MIRROR! Catching vehicles coming up behind him! SUPER SNEAKY! I was almost hoping he was gonna give me a ticket, cause I sure wanted to test that in court! I'm sure the laser has NEVER been certified to be accurate when bounced off the mirror like that!!!

Those black SUV's you're talking about are military police assigned to civilian police duties, its like contracting, they contract to munincipal police services to help them, even the military needs a steady income. They are tactical units.

On the other hand its disgusting and sad, the York, Peel, OPP, need the MILITARY police to catch civilians SPEEDING!!!

These same people are now tasked to catch bikers who run. Unless you just go ride solo, chances are they will catch you, they caught all my buddies who used to run. just don't do crazy shiit during 8am to 2am, and you'll never get a ticket or get pulled over, leave that ripping for 3-4am in the morning, the time where most cops are too tired or about to go home, and could care less what you do on your bike.

The actually know the difference between posers, agatt wanabe's, squids, and those hardcore 3-4am responsible riders. They know who's out to show up and easy bait, vs who's at least trying to be responsible, and having their own fun when no ones around.

personally im not a fan of any policing that gives tickets and cuffs for having fun on a bike or sports car with a good pilot, but i get it, as you get older you see, that most people can't drive good, nor ride good, and it starts to make sense why they are so strict at times, specially daylight hours and early evenings is a huge no no.
I really don't understand why more people don't ride 3-4am, its so much fun, almost no chance for cop trouble, if so, lets just say its easy to handle that situation whit the wrist.lol and most of them at that hour don't give a shiit anyways, plus its peacful, and no idiat cagers on the road, a win win for everyone imo.

This is absolutely 100% true, a reason why i ride late, verrry late, i realised if you ride in the day time, afternoon, evening, once a cop gets behind you, unless your bike is straight out of the dealership stock, you are going to get some sort of citation, if nothing on the bike, 100% a moving violation.

I've got 10x's more tickets on a bike in 3 years being absolutely careful, then i ever did driving a car like a hooligan for 10 years.....but on a serious note, there should be a section in the new riders telling them what the bike lifestyle is like =couple of tickets a year+hundreds in maintainance and parts+some more tickets, lawyers fees and court times, if you stop, you'll get to know the cops and the courts real well. If you get a sports bike.....you better run, or if your like me, pull over everytime and take of your pants and bend over.

^ Umm....bit of news for you. Not everyone has your experiences. I've been riding for a while now on this continent and not had any speeding tickets and the only time I was stopped was at a RIDE check for seatbelts LOL. If we do a scientific study of the differences in our experiences I think you'll find it really comes down to only a few variables.

- I've put over 11K on my odometer this season
- I ride at all times of day and night
- I ride all over southern Ontario, through many different Police jurisdictions
- I've had Police of many flavours pull up behind me, I've even been in the middle of a Peel Police sandwich
- I have many, many mods installed on my bike, including the obvious aftermarket exhaust and fender eliminator

And yet, I haven't been pulled over even once while on my bike (with the exception of a RIDE stop which went exactly like this "Have you had anything to drink tonight? OK, have a good one.")

TL;DR: lol

I don't even know how to respond to the military police comment, so just see the above line.

REALLY. I didn't realize you knew all the ins and outs of Military Police work, so let me educate you as a former Military AND civilian peace officer. The military DOES NOT "contract out" to civilian police agencies. The military police will "liase" with their civilian counterparts especially in areas which have a smaller civilian population but a large military population. Like say Ormocto NB/CFB Gagetown. Oromocto is policed by the RCMP but when they need back up assistance they will ask for Military Police to respond, (as they are the closest police agency. When you respond to a call on civilian property you are "under the command of the senior civilian police officer".

As for your assertion "these same guys are tasked to catch bikers who run"??? LMAO is that because Military Police have "special powers or better driving skills" than a Civilian Police officer has??" gmafb

But I can assure you Military Police do NOT chase fleeing motorcyclists, (unless that bike IS ON a military installation). So how is it there in your world? Because in the real world, just like the 2 posters above me, (I have close to 25 years riding experience), I have been pulled over ONCE, that was for going 93 in an 80 on Hwy 35 outside Lindsay. I absolutely deserved the ticket, (but I was polite, respectful and actually had pulled over BEFORE the cruiser got turned around), I left with a warning from the officer. I have since the end of May this season put just over 10K on my odometer. But you enjoy your 3 - 4 am rides. Glad I am not on the roads when you decide to run from a speeding ticket.

Guess you didn't read the story about 3 months ago of the guy trying to run on his stolen motorcycle in York region at 4 am.. so let me refresh your memory cops chased and caught him. Damn there goes that theory that "they will never chase as they are too tired or don't give a **** to chase you"...lmao Could be they make the sensible choice not to needlessly endanger INNOCENT lives, or risk their career on the likes of fools who run.

Don't worry about it, that kid's been posting similar drivel in every thread. It's pretty obvious he has no clue what he's talking about and either just blowing smoke out his *** or trolling.

Got some neat little info about Military police out your post though, so that's cool. Always like to learn!

WTF are you smoking?

Your post is so full of ****, its not funny ..

Oh I dunno, I think his posts are pretty funny actually. :D

I hear Goldwings have OnStar.

But for the rest of us, do the various police departments have a standard policy about allowing motorcycles to keep going until they reach a populated area?

For any vehicle, activate 4-ways and reduce speed, pull in to the first "safe" area. Call 911 if it's practical, I.e. if you have Bluetooth

Good for you two. I made it 20mins into the first ride of the season before I was pulled over by a Niagara cop for a "document check" that lasted 45mins, and included a tread depth measurement, and a litany of other threats. The highlight of ridiculousness was when he put his hand on my rear tire and then proclaimed I must have been really over the limit for it to be that warm. Um, nice try chucklehead.

135,000km in 5yrs, the tally reads:
Never gotten a speeding ticket on the bike...but BS parking ticket in Wasaga (three bikes in one spot), plate violation ticket (even though the plate is stock), noise violation ticket (no, your assertion that my bike is "too loud") and a helmet ticket because I rode from one side of a 401 service station to the parking lot without wearing my lid...but I get stopped atleast a dozen times a season on fishing expeditions.

Hell I've even been in my kayak on Lake Ontario and been stopped by Halton, Peel & OPP marine units. And asked to provide proof of ownership. In a kayak. Christ I was even fishing Bronte Creek and had a Halton cop pop out of the woods and hassle me.

Oddly enough, once out of the Socialist Police State Of Canuckistan that is now Ontario, never been stopped once. QC, NY, PA, VI, TN, NC, FL...
Spent a month in Montreal, in all my time there, riding everyday including day trips out of the city, I saw exactly TWO SQ running traffic traps. Riding from Hamilton to the Quebec border, in six hours I passed 5 OPP.

Law enforcement in Ontario is beyond broken, and now they have Tazers again.

No it isn't. A quota is a defined amount. There's a big difference between "Bring in X tickets per month or you're fired" vs. "There's obviously a lot of people speeding, talking on their phones, driving impaired, etc. How is it you only issued 5 tickets last month?"

Part of an officer's responsibilities is enforcing traffic laws. Knowing full well that there are a lot of people breaking the laws out there, failing to bring in a reasonable amount of tickets is a sign that they're not performing their duties. That's it.

Agreed. if only they focused on other tickets, and not just the speeding ones.. ie. Red light right turners not stopping, irratic driving, failure to use signals <-- that one will NEVER be enforced here.. 'cos cops themselves don't bother.

lol yeah go out at 3 or 4am so I can hit a racoon or a deer.
