Unplug HID Headlights for day driving? Or does it Matter?

Just wait until a ****** off old geezer / Cager puts on his high beams at night just because you blinded him with HID's that are not factory setup

Easy fix. Turn on YOUR high beams to show him the difference.

I put HIDs on my bike, had my dad ride it and I was infront, I have no idea why people are saying they're blinding. It's people who don't adjust them properly makes it blinding, or you must be old to see things brighter and louder, or you were at the top of the hill and I was coming towards you from the bottom.

I Am with you, people don't realize there is a lot more to HID / Xenon lighting than just changing a F@$**** bulb and adding a ballast. All factory cars and the BMW K1600 fitted with Xenons have self leveling motors so they don't effect oncoming traffic. Also the cheap HID bulbs die quick too, then try riding at night. That's why a HID option on cars cost at least $1000 more. Not $100 for fake crap.

WOW for 3 posts you come out swinging dont you? LOL

FYI I really dont give a **** if I blind you with my HID's because

1) you saw me so that increases my safety
2) I can see better at night
3) I going to do what ever the fcuk I want and be happy about it.

How you like them apples newbie?

:)

Sarcasm if you dont understand it and cant handle it. this is not the place for you.

I'd rather blind them for a sec as I'm passing than get hit by them as they are turning left into my path.

What about all the cars in front of you - you are blinding them too!

Sarcasm or not -

By that logic - you might as well just bypass your horn button and hard wire it to the ignition so your horn is always on... May be annoying but more safe by this disturbed logic.

I don't think everyone has auto dimming mirrors, and some roads are single lane each way, no where for the poor guy in front to go.

HID's are like evey mod to a motorcycle, People have their reason to like them and people have their reasons to not like them.

I personally would much rather be stuck in front of someone with HID's then be stuck behind a Harley with there wonderful straight pipes.

If you like it, do it, if not then don't, Very simple.

I have had 4 sets for 3 years in and not one problem, Even if they did thats what the lifetime warranty is for.

Most auto manufacturers that charge $1000 for HID's are because they come with a sticker that says the name brand on it. They all work the same so I couldn't care less as long as I am not getting ripped of by paying that much.

I had no idea SV riders were so hardcore. After reading this post I know I wouldn't mess with one of you guys.

Bike has nothing to do with it. I just don't care what anyone thinks or their opinion.

It has to be the bike because I heard you were timid like a little girl until you rode the
SV.:)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe your regulator/rectifier will have to dissipate more power therefore it will get hotter. This could shorten it's life and it's quite expesive. Your battery is not really getting drained while the bike is running.

Some night, an officer of the law might mistake your headlight for highbeams, and charge you with:
Use of passing beam
168. When on a highway at any time when lighted lamps are required to be displayed on vehicles, the driver of a motor vehicle equipped with multiple beam headlamps shall use the lower or passing beam when,(a) approaching an oncoming vehicle within 150 metres; or(b) following another vehicle within 60 metres, except when in the act of overtaking and passing. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 168.

Great copy and paste job. But the officer needs to prove I'm using high beams. With my HIDs I rarely use my highs. So as long as I'm using my "lowest" setting the charge would never hold in court.

Oh I can't copy and paste my reference material but the gf spent a year in traffic div and she laughed when I showed her your post and i asked if my low beams would warrant a ticket based on the act you quoted.

If you were being a dick and they needed a reason to pull you over they could use that. But very unlikely the charge would be laid or stick even if they tried.

But then again every situations different and everyone drives different.

I have had HID's for a year and a half now. I've been flashed once, and have ridden past probably 20 cop cruisers without being pulled over. People I group ride with say, "wow, it's cool, your light is quite bright and a little bit blue, I can see you well" rather than "OMG, that is totally irritating, get lost squid!" I'm running 8000k's - if I were running 5000k's or 6000k's I doubt people could tell a difference.

I've actually had more people flash their highbeams at me in my car since I polished my headlight lenses with a DIY kit 6 months ago. In the car, I'm running the cheapest stock equivalent 9005/9006 bulbs - not even SilverStar's or CoolBlues.

My bike's headlights have factory projectors and blockers. I left the low-beam and high-beam blockers intact when I added the HID's. I think this setup tends to help spread the beam, and avoid irritating everyone else.

If my bike didn't have the projector setup, I might consider a retrofit to a projector setup or a Hella headlight setup (like this).

I did the HID's after, in my first year with my Bandit, someone turned left onto my incoming path at night. Nothing like that has happened since and I bet I'm more noticeable. The stock headlamps on my bike were crap.

Unfortunately for EVERYONE else, and fortunately for you, you're probably right that the charge would likely not stick in court, but roadside, for sure you can easily be charged with that, even if you are polite. Some people don't have the time to spent in court.
