Undertail Exhausts

09 Yamaha R1.....the muffler heat frys the seat and your butt plus the catalytic converter on the right side fries your right ankle.
On any day it is not a pleasant experience.
I am skeptical of anyone who claims that a high exhaust system produces no uncomfortable heat.

06 R1 with powder coated Hindle full exhaust. You don't want to be riding through rush hour traffic in mid July.

R1 is by far the worst of the bunch, and well-known for it.

05 R1 with a&r race baffles in stock Ti cans and gutted cats and no heat shields. I've only ridden this bike since this winter, but so far, no issues with excessive heat.

Zx6r no difference for rider or passenger . But like was said previously - no trunk space. And with the zx6r because the exhaust comes up by your right leg and then up and under - you can def feel the heat on your leg, especially in the hot summer.

06 R1 No heat issues at all with 2 bros slip ons and stock y pipe, however without my leathers on i do notice the heat on my leg, but nothing hot just warm.

It looks great, but does it result in a noticable increase in temperature on the seat? Specifically asking with regards to a Duc.

Thanks in advance.

The mufflers are not the main problem on Ducatis. It's more about the heat from the rear cylinder and the exhaust pipes leading to the mufflers.
My wife has only put 1000 kilometres on her 796 and that in cool temperatures. She says it's very nice now but she's not looking forward to the heat of summer and slow moving traffic. Again the problem isn't the mufflers, it is the rear cylinder and the "Y" pipe right under the seat.

I had a 2005 ZX6R, 2007 ZX10R, and rode an 1198S and 2010 R1 before. All showed slight signs of extra heat in the thigh area. The ducati the most but nothing nasty.

On a blazing hot 33C+ day the ZX10R was noticible. None of them were from the exhausts so much, as they were from the mid-pipes.

The metal trim on my ZX10R's carbon fibre Akra pipes however did burn my wife's ankle. Left a cute nut shaped burn scar. But that's her fault for sporting heels. Never had a problem with the CF though, that stuff stays nice and cool compared to any metal.

Not really an issue though, don't sweat it.

The engine rumble of the Duc and even the R1 in your crotch is an issue though...a wonderful massaging issue!

1098 big issue. Four hours and one metal grinder later, no issue. Apart from the noise and extra power.

buddy's 848 seat at a standstill doubles great as a frying pan...except it would prob be more comfy sitting on the frying pan

rode an fz6 with an aftermarket leo on her and didn't notice heat. I wear full gear textiles and ride all the time.

Just picked up an Akrapovic Y-pipe for my 05 R1 track bike as the OEM Y-pipe was cooking my shock. I'd rather have a standard low/side mount exhaust than the undertail.
