Umar Zameer

Doug Ford, John Tory and Patrick Brown all owe Umar Zameer their ‘deepest apologies’ as well

Will Premier Doug Ford retract his twitter comments after the ruling? Will he apologize to Umar Zameer and his family? Will he double down and back the TPS association? Stay tuned!

Given douggies track record, probably all of the above. Send something out and then retract if backlash is strong. Rinse and repeat until you are back where you started.

I doubt he'll say anything more. Let it wash away with todays news cycle. No need to draw more attention to his tweets. The only people who will care about this next month is the cops and zameer family.

go to the "not-guilty outcomes" section

The internet never forgets. It may have when we used floppy discs for storage. I Googled a name of someone who was charged but it never went to trial. A dozen years later the newspaper article shows up.

TPS and the union displace a lot of water. No mayor in recent history has gone up against them. You get work to rule, sick leaves, and even poorer traffic enforcement than we have now. If you think you can do better, by all means run in the next election.
As I've mentioned before, I'm no particular fan of mayor Chow but she's got a tough job to do - a lot of the problems go back decades.
Zameer can sue the ONTARIO court system, TPS and whoever he feels is responsible, that is his right.
and the settlement is paid by the tax payers.

This will not "wash away" that easily.

The legacy: For the family of the fallen officer, there needs to be an inquiry into the actions of TPS.

Zameer is innocent and if the officers family thinks otherwise there will be continued bitterness against the system, the man, his family and possibly his race. His family needs to know the truth. His death was at the hands of his peers.

It will be a bitter pill to swallow if it comes out that he died due to poor planning, training or support and that is how it looks.

He obviously got a hard slap from somebody. You are right though, he half retracted his statement but won't let go. He needs to be fired to provide a clear message that police are not the law and not above the law.

The police should not be pushing for an outcome at a trial. Their job is to competently gather and collect evidence not to get a conviction. If their evidence gathering was incompetent or misguided, that is a major issue. The decision of the jury should be a note in the police file not the focus.

He should be suspended without pay...unbelievable... :(
"It is alleged that:

  • a man attended an address
  • the man assaulted two women"
It is unproven at this point but considering the sensitivity of police / public relations this can't be dragged out of years.

You can not suspend without pay, every cop, due to an allegation. However they can have a grand jury / preliminary hearing to determine the validity of the charge. Go from there. Set a short time limit so people don't forget details or smudge ink. False allegations are chargeable offences.

Why even change the Act so they have the option then?

Assault multiple women? You better start looking for an alternate means of making money. And don't (re)play the "alleged" card. For a cop to get charged in the first place means the evidence is overwhelming enough they wouldn't be able to sweep the incident under the carpet without media scrutiny at the least.

I’m guessing they will. I can see and understand their call to support the police given the initial reports, particularly with such a scathing account that it rose to the charge of first degree murder.

I’d guess more than one of us here had the same thoughts when reading the 2021 police charges and their fabricated account of the events.

Bigger question is will they hand out the appropriate criticism to Chiefs Ramer and his moron successor Demkiw, both still publicly disappointed with the verdict, and utterly confounding the public by not accepting the facts of the case.

Now the OPP will investigate. Hmm, the largest force in the province with the worst record in the province for suspending for bad cops gets to investigate bad cops. Go figure.

I find it very disturbing that the police chief and the widow both expressed disappointment with the verdict. The chief said he wanted to see a different outcome. In essence, they said they wanted to see an innocent man go to jail for a very long time. I guess they had 3 of their buddies lying on the stand hoping to effect the same outcome. Disgusting.
I can totally understand the widow's point of view, thats pure emotion. The chief should know better, being part of the justice system.

So hundreds or thousands of malcontents file fake charges and the police department folds up????

Fast track the allegations, one week suspension with pay and then a preliminary hearing to reinstate or suspend without pay. No more years of paid vacations
