UHaul bike to TO from Kingston/Belleville?

I'm looking around for a decent beater bike, and there seems to be a number of good candidates in or east of Belleville. I don't have a bike trailer myself, I was thinking of renting a UHaul trailer to potentially haul one back. The flaw with this idea is that those UHaul trailers are not supposed to be used on the highway* and that would kinda put me on a tight schedule if I had to slog it up Hwy 2 or whatever. Who has a better idea? This might be a dumb question but I have a cold right now and am not thinking good

*I know people used them on the highway and have not died - I don't want to get pulled over for it since it clearly has a huge sticker on the side that says "55 MPH max"

I've used it to pull my bike a couple of times with no issues hovering around 120-130 km/h.

Just do 55mph in the slow lane if you're so worried. I did 130kmh from Kingston no worries.

If you're that concerned about that 55 mph sticker then just stay in the right lane and do 55mph/90kmh.

Btw that sticker is there because the average person has no idea what the effect a trailer with cargo has on a car. Increases your stopping distance, it could start jumping around etc... so its a pretty good idea to go slower anyways.

You'll be fine. Why not use the bed?

I've used the bed to transport bikes in the past, and while it's possible it's a big PITA. The bed is kinda high off the ground (it's a Z71) and I am just not comfortable with heaving a bike up there. Also this truck is not mine, borrowing it, so I'm also not really comfortable with the anchor points I have to work with and can't add any

Makes sense. You shouldnt have any problems pulling a trailer with a silverado on the highway. And you're right the motorcycle trailer from uhaul is a piece of cake to load...

Drive up with a friend in an econobox and ride the bike back with a trip permit (and them behind you in case there is an issue)?

We moved my first bike from Belleville to Toronto on U-Haul trailer with no problems (on 401 obviously). You can also rent a full size van, get a ramp and move bike that way.

I bought my bike from somebody in Belleville and towed it back to Brampton using a Uhaul trailer last year. It works well, I was going 120-130km/h on the 401 the whole way.

i bought my bike about 100km away on 401, rented the uhaul motorcycle trailer for like $15-$20 and hauled it with my Mazda 5 no problem. I took it relatively slow and did do it late on a Sunday night but i wouldnt think twice about doing it again.

It feels like there are a whole lot of people that only read the titles of my threads.

I bought both my bikes used outside the city and figure it allowed me to get them at a better price (less demand). I assume i saved 15-20% buying in a market where less people wanted to go to from the city.

I wouldnt rule out the city but the larger the area you are looking the more options/better prices you will find IMO!
