two close calls today!!!

Every time I am out on the bike there are near missis all the time.It is how you read the traffic.Comes down to common sense in avoiding stupid people. That would include cagers, cyclists, pedestrians, etc. Consider how most people read traffic and automatically assume they are going to do something stupid/dangerous.You are invisible to everyone, except the Po Po.

i had two close calls today and both were of the same nature, stupid cagers trying to change lane without checking blind spot!!! Just be careful out there.

almost got wiped out today as well. Was in the dedicated right turn lane. All cars stopped at red light than this van shoots perpendicular across two lanes into the right turn lane. Man my reflexes was quick stopped on a dime.

Yes to both. Not that anybody use a hand held phone nowdays, sitting next to cagers on the phone a few blips on the throttle with a loud`ish exhaust annoys them.Love the dirty looks they give you, especially with the window/top down.

:lmao:If I notice a driver on the phone next to me in traffic, I usually drop down a gear or two, bring the revs up and see how they like trying to talk over the exhaust noise. Then catch their reaction when they notice that I'm filming them on the phone while driving with my helmet cam :)

If you had two close calls in one day, you are the problem.
Take a close look at how you are riding.
It's time to change the way that you ride.
You need to be more aware.

try riding home in rush hour on the highway...people are zombies at the end of the day, they just start slowly creeping into your lane while you are there...i see them doing it, a little toot on the horn usually wakes them up, but if they wonder too close, then always keep a quick lane split option open...hop a few cars ahead and pop back in...get some distance between that guy...

I agree, my instructor when I took my course and I remember it well, is that if you are having more than 1 or 2 close calls every now and then (and I take that to mean per season) then you need to take a look at yourself and how you are riding.

I can recall each of the two "close calls" I've ever had, one really wasn't close, just bugged me that another rider passed me in my own lane on the 401, (screw you, I wasn't sharing there were other lanes)

Once someone turned in front of me, but I could see him but he couldn't see me that well as the intersection was at the crest of hill I was coming up. I easily avoided him as I anticipated it, he caught up to me at the next light and was so apologetic, I'm not sure who was more rattled, me on the bike or him in the cage, thinking about the fact he had turned in front of me.

I think we like to blame the cars and the drivers, but a lot of time it's the riders and their styles

Loud exhausts help, but the sound is behind you. You are relatively silent when approaching a car once you pass you are loud as h3ll... But then you are already passed the car and are not in danger of being cut off.

Sometimes when I approach an intersection that has oncoming cars waiting to turn left, i will flash my brights a couple of times to make sure they see me. But i like the swerving thing mentioned above.

Um, come on. You couldn't see that coming a mile away.
The guy was way over on the left side of the lane, way before you even got close to him.

right, cause we live in a perfect world where everyone drives perfectly in the middle of every lane.

I agree that flashing your lights will help you to be seen, but it's also commonly used as "go ahead" or "you can go first" and that's why I don't flash lights. I usually try to make strong eye contact (even with a tinted visor) and make sure I have an emergency exit/plan if I see the tire move even in the slightest.

Man GTAM is getting repetitive. After we hit 100 "can I take my bike out today" we get the "do I need deionized water to wash my bike" threads and we continue on with "OMG close call" and "Why wont any one wave at me?" threads for the rest of the summer.

Honestly in 8 years of riding I had ONE close call, that was due to my stupidity. Ur doing something wrong.
