Tv/cable

I'm canceling my Rogers and going all online.

Teksavvy connection with 300gb limit is under $50/month. Most of the Canadian networks have their lineups online for free. In addition, I'm gonna pay another 8$ per month for streamingvpn.com so I can watch Hulu, which has a huge library of current and past tv.

Couple this with a cheap HTPC and torrents for movies, and I have all the bases covered without giving Rogers or Bell my money (directly, anyway)

Been doing this for the past 5 years! Teksavvy is the only way to go ;)
@mmmnaked, Try out Hotspot Shield's free download. It changes you vpn on the fly allowing you to use sites like hulu, pandora radio etc. thus saving you an $8 a month bill

Only downfall is that I have to go without Speed TV once in a while if I can't find a live stream. tvpc.com has an absolute ton of live streaming channels with all the good networks like discovery, history, nat geo, and more plus a tv guide to go with it.

It puts iTunes onto your computer. That is the most basic explanation of it, although it does a few more things of course.

Doh, my bad. It puts iTunes onto your TV, from your computer. Sorry.

I don't have Teksavvy cable in my area. I do not have a home phone. Anybody know what are my options?

I see alot of services on teksavvy site but I dont know what they mean

Your best option would be to give them a call and ask what they can offer for your area. I have their DSL service (6mbps), not as quick as cable, but more coverage area.

Internet and phone with them is almost $100 on the dot and that includes unlimited L-distance, call disp. call answer etc.

I have star choice (now shaw direct) and I have 4 boxes at home, and 2 at the "cottage". Since mom and dad have taken up full time residence at the "cottage" they felt compelled to contribute to the bill. I get almost everything for around $105/mo, less the contributions from my cottage dwellers.

I got rid of cable and satellite 6 years ago. Never looked back. I don't miss them at all. If I really want to see a movie I buy the DVD. I get the news from the Internet, not interested in shows and soap operas.

You can buy a dry loop service from teksavvy. The price changes based on your area but basically you add ~$10 a month to the DSL price to use the phone lines for internet without paying for phone service. That's what I use, no problems (after I figured out the Bell tech had hooked up a very strange wire pair, why would someone not stick with red/green or black/yellow?).

I'll give them a call and see if its worth it. I have Roger's Lite now, but only get 25Gbs. I need a bit more bandwith

Time to time we spend a few days in hotels. Watching my kids being glued to the "idiot box" reassures me it was the right thing to get rid of the constant stream of commercials and low quality programs.

How do u entertain your guests?

If I have guests I usually invite them because I am genuinely interested in them. If they insist on watching TV instead of talking to me, then they won't be invited again.

P.S. This was a joke, wasn't it?

no joke.

Sometime I have family members over and I might be busy doing something or wrapping up on something. So instead of having them stand around making me nervous, I just tell them to have a seat and watch some TV.

At one point I disconnect my TV too. I live alone, so no need for something I hardly use

Family members? You can put them to good use! Cut the grass, water the lawn, do the dishes... :) Or just send them away! ;-)

Well, it is easy for me, the closest family member is 2250 kms away. They don't just drop by.

I do have quite a few DVDs, that can double as cable TV if I feel the urge.
